I broke the pull cord on my S33 a last weekend on the ice, bummer when you need it but oh well. I'm sure there are many that know how to replace it, but i've never done it. It's easy if you never have and if anyone knows an easier way, please post it. The nylon rope I used wasn't thick enough, may have to do it again. Image quality isn't great, sorry. Couldn't find a how to for the eskimo, but I assume they are all laid out the same way.

Remove the 4 alan bolts from the starter and remove the starter from the unit. Should look like this from below. The steel part is a gasket, remove it.

Remove the center screw, phillips screw driver didn't cut it, use a large flat. Once the screw is removed, lift the plastic retainer but be careful of the two steel legs. They are basicall hinged, just don't lose them. Note the spring under the plastic retainer, pull it out.

Note the steel coil and how it's seated into the center under the starter pull before removing from the shroud. There is no easy way that I know of to pull the starter out of the shroud while retaining the spring - just lift it out, it's going to uncoil. Watch your fingers. Remove the remaining line and knot from the starter and replace with your new rope - you'll figure it out, feed the rope to the knot end.

Coil the rope around the starter counter clockwise (when looking at the bottom), your rope should be a little longer than the one that came with it. Slide the rope into the notch on the plastic starter as shown.

Time to wind the coil... The outside end fits into the notch on the outside edge of the starter. You may need to pinch gently, very gently so you don't break it. Hold it carefully in one hand, wrapping the coil from the outside in. Took me 5 attempts but I got it. It's not hard.

It should look like this when you're done.

The tricky part is getting the starter back into the shroud. I used a pair of needle nose pliers. Grasp the steel coil end through the hole with needle nose pliers gently then drop the starter into the shroud. Use the needle nose pliers to push the coil back into the center - the unit should drop in flush. Turn the starter assembly to make sure it moves clean.

Install the spring, then install the plastic retainer - be sure the legs slide into the channels around the starter. Install the center screw and make sure it's tight before trying to spin the assembly or you'll be starting over.

Pull the string out of the notch, turn the starter til the cord meets the grommet, pull the string through and test the unit to ensure the cord pulls out clean and gets retracted. If all is good, reinstall back onto the auger.

You'll have to adjust the length of cord when installing the handle, you'll figure it out.
