I like the knot in this one.

This one is carved out of a piece of an old (50+ years) barn that fell down this winter.
Really happy with the scale effect especially on the silver one.

It would be an awesome feeling to catch a fish on a lure you carved from a chunk of wood! Well done!
Nice. I swear I'm going to put some hooks on a select pair of my wife's ear rings and catch some rainbows:)

Just curious, what do you use for the lip at the front of the lure? :)

I was just sitting down to start a thread like this, I had skunkboy at KMS tools getting stuff for welding class and we saw a book, "Making wooden fishing lures"
it had to come home with us
The first body I made is for what the book calls a "chaser" a big pike spinner. the body is about 4 - 4.5 inches.
Gonna have to get an airbrush. :)

the wooden plugs should work great at Brazeau. I made a really rough one out of a branch and eye screws and the pike loved it. Natural color too.

I make home made lures alot. There is nothing better than catching a fish on home made stuff. My buddies always give me the high 5 on catching a big ol pike on a wacky looking homemade unit. Making guacamole right now, I'll run out and grab a couple and post em in a bit. Good on ya! They'll work. Tuning the lip takes a bit but i have one that has the most ridiculous trolling pattern ( big wide unpredictable arcs ) but it works great !

Nice work on the lures! Just curious do you just glue into the slot in the wood?

There are two ways to hang a hook(at least)
1. The OP will likely just use long eye screws
2. Thru wire, so you either start with two halves or cut a lure in half and embed a wire that has been bent into a shape that fits the lure.
The same guy who posted the paint brush handle lure has a 7 parter that goes through a carved balsa wood plug (think rapala classic minnow)
At this point I have 18 wire sets bent up and a couple of bodies carved. One thing I did read is that a beginner should focus on few 2-3 lure styles that are most useful to you and get good at them, as you get good at them you can up and down scale them.
I figure if I can get 10 out of the first 18 to swim right it will be a decent ROI on 12$ of material so far.
If guys want I have a couple of interesting PDFs on lure building PM me if you want them
I think I am liking this better than fly tying.

I bought that same book and made several lures using it as a guideline. I turned mine on the lathe though. I recently started making Jigs and spinner baits as well Very Enjoyable .http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a164/AlbertaPete/Jigs%20I%20have%20made/Image0544.jpg (http://s11.photobucket.com/user/AlbertaPete/media/Jigs%20I%20have%20made/Image0544.jpg.html)http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a164/AlbertaPete/Jigs%20I%20have%20made/Image0541.jpg (http://s11.photobucket.com/user/AlbertaPete/media/Jigs%20I%20have%20made/Image0541.jpg.html)http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a164/AlbertaPete/Jigs%20I%20have%20made/IMG_11541.jpg (http://s11.photobucket.com/user/AlbertaPete/media/Jigs%20I%20have%20made/IMG_11541.jpg.html)

Wow. I feel good about myself if I paint a jig or tie on some flashabou. This brings it to a whole different level. Nice work everyone!

Then I won't say anything about hand poured plastic tails or cast foam plugs.
:)
This stuff is endless
