My wife and I are heading to Nova Scotia/PEI for the first time for a couple weeks in early July. We might take some light weight fly rods (4-8 wt) with us and are looking for fishing tips/locations - anything from streams/rivers to off-shore fishing charters. We're renting a car but won't have a boat or float tubes. Where should we go and what should we do? Thanks in advance.

If you got money to throw around go on a Tuna charter in PEI! 1400 big ones, and a fight you will never forget. Some good sea run speckled trout and steal head fishing to be had as well. Shrimp patterns with strike indicators work best, can be tough fishing and hard competition at times!

If you're going to be in the Halifax area, go down to Fisherman's Cove in Eastern Passage and there are a lot of charters to go out deep sea fishing. Just walk around and talk to the captains and you'll find a good deal.

I would not recommend Murphy's Tours for fishing, it's a big boat with up to 30-40 fishermen. Good for kids but you'll only fish in the harbour and only catch mackerel and maybe a few small cod. That being said, I would recommend Murphy's tours for the "Open Deck Party Cruise" on the Silva, it's a late night cruise in the harbour on a 130' sailboat with live music. Very good time. http://www.tallshipsilva.com/halifax-harbour-tours.php

Can't help you with PEI, other than bring your golf clubs!

I biked around new Brunswick and PEI about 13 years ago. It was a great trip. I bought a ultra light set up and fished mackerel off the piers. Was a blast. We also asked local guys if they would take us out. For 15.00 each we cought a lot of fish.
Fly would be fun. Great people beautiful area. It was along time ago so I'm sure there are people on here who can give more current info.
I hope it hasn't changed too much though!
