With the Winter sales here I need another reel.
I have a few and the best is a Pfluger president.
But I was told that Mitchell makes a better product.
What are your favorite reels and why?
Or does anyone have a good reel to sell?

I just bought an Abu Garcia C4 Reel for Big Pike or Lakers and I love It ,
The reel you choose is based on what type of fish you are after, I have a very small Reel and rod for Perch, Trout and whites, then I have a heavier combo with My C4 Reel....
Hope that helps

The shimano Stella is the best in a 1000 series.

I have a quantum energy bait caster that I've has for 16 years that's been ok, still get backlash. But recently got a shimano chronarch that have yet to get backlash with - very impressed and would love to get my hands on another.
I had a pluegar supreme that was nice until it ended up on the bottom of Newell, hope to retrieve it this summer hahah
Don't buy a quantum smoke, that reel is junk.
I recommend shimano all day long

X2 on the Pflueger presidents. Best reels.
On all my ice fishing rods I have Rapala F2 ultra light reels on my ice fishing rods.
They do the trick on the medium light rods I have. :) for 25 bucks I bought 4 and 4 fenwick elitech ice rods.

I like the Fenwick rods too. I had some F2 reels last year but found I was constantly tightening the handle all the time.

Go figure...I have one F2 and if anything I have the opposite problem, when I have it tightened on good it almost sticks!
On the smaller rods the F2 is okay, but I love my Shimano Sahara's (1000 and 500).
For the big stuff I use a Shimano Corvalus and a couple of Abu C3's.
For the most part most of my reels get used in the summer as well as winter.
Abu C4 for deep water lakers or big pike.
Frabil single action for the rest of it - beauty reel - friken love it - great drag and cool looking

X3 for the Pflueger/fenwick set up, my only beef is that the fenwick rods two end guides are a little on the small side which in turn will give you problems on a cold day when you get ice build up on you line. Been looking for the rapala r-type rod for the fact it has nice big guides but cant seem to find any with out it being a rod/reel combo. If anyone spots just the rod for sale give me a heads up..... Thanks

Not a fan of the Abu 50 have 2 of them and they both have drag issues. They now have become my tiny trout reels
Always been a believer in Shimano reels. Have 2 with 34" St Croix rods. Also like the Browning 50 also with a St Croix rod.

Try going online to find the R-type rod only. I've been looking for the same thing, having bought the combo already, the reel really isn't that great. In my travels, I was lucky to find a store with a combo where reel was either broken or stolen, and they sold the rod only for $15. Picked that ip in a heart beat!
Le Baron in Ontario had it in stock for rod only and I know they do online orders. Good luck!

Shimano Sienna 1000 on a Fenwick Elite Rod. Very happy with both, and you can get the shimano reels on amazon for $29.99
I also use a shimano bait caster on one of my Fenwick rods... I like it as there is no curl in the line and your bait or lure falls down the hole without spinning.

Any Shimano 1000 size reel that fits your budget from a Sahara to a Stella. The CI4+ is available in a 1000FAML (Microline) model which is specifically designed for ultralite and ice fishing situations.

I use the C4 or one of my 2 modded C3's. Even for small fish, drag is slick.
Tried out a new Abu Soron last weekend and boy were the fights smooth. Bearings for bearings for bearings!
