Anyone been out lately ? looking to head out today. I expect smelts would be best for bait ?

Was out yesterday with my best fishin buddy. We only caught 1 but were only there for an hour and a half. Peice of a smelt on a white jig head was our weapon of choice.

Was out today with my son, wife and a friend. We had good luck caught 6 on a variety of hooks! Jigs, spoons ect... The ranged from 1.5-5 lbs. we caught them on the south end about 200 yards off shore in about 8-12' of water. We all had a blast would post pics just haven't figured that part out yet! Bait was minnows, smelts, shrimp and worms. That may have been why we caught so much oh and being out there for 7 hrs! I'll give my kid credit he never complained once! But he did have a blast! Plus they are all back in the water for others to catch! Lots of fun!!!!!! Oh yeah lots of ice!!!!! Like 3' so hope you got a long auger!!!!!
