A quick search turned this up:

"National Flag of Canada day on Feb. 15 began in 1996 and marks the day in 1965 when the Canadian flag was officially raised across the country for the first time"

It's the birthday of the Canadian flag. Not sure if that's the reason. I saw on Twitter that Harper says they are honouring Sarah Burke this year.

The mayor of strathcona county is refusing to fly the "pride" flag outside of county hall. Good for her for having a set.
I voted for her.
I see no need to bow to this pressure.

I'm guessing that's ^ why it's at half mast.

See the link in CaberTosser's post (post #4) for details.

It's for the funeral of a retired Capt. who passed this week. Should be the CFD flag at half mast.

True the OP did say he saw it at a firehall. However some firehalls have 2 flags, a Canada flag and a CFD flag. The Canadian one flies at half mast for National reasons while the CFD flag goes to half mast for tragities in the fire department itself.

So one flag might be at half mast while the other one is at full mast.

Thats what I have been told at least.

Derail alert!

The flag was flying at "half staff" not "half mast".

Good night. :scared0018:

They are still flying it inside. It's a little bit of a bow. They will bow further next time..

I wonder what would have happened if Christians tried to fly flags all across Canada with a cross on it during the games in Beijing??

Ya know, to protest the arrests, sentencing to labor camps, short term detentions, rape and torture in police custody, destruction and confiscation of property, beatings, fines, the loss of jobs or business licenses, and police intimidation which some Christians face...

You are correct, if you are in the US although the term "Half Mast" is always used here in Canada. Drives me crazy trying to keep track of all the different rules.

The two good 'ol boys on the right don't seem very enthused.

The good ole boy on the far right is not a good ole boy.
That's Vic bidzinski.
He misses the previous mayor. He's been at the trough too long.
I can not believe this cry baby keeps getting elected.
It took him ten years of trying. But he finally got his wish on a sidewalk snow removal bylaw.
Anyway, back to the program.

Here's a surprise for you... I agree.

Mind you, my perspective is give no one group special rights or recognition. It's a great way to cause disharmony.

If it's Calgary I'm guessing the flag is at half mast for Sue Higgins, the famous "alderbroad" who just died. Served on 7 city councils.
