Tight game so far.

Anyone else notice they are refereeing very loose. Lots of holding, minor cross checking etc. Not one game as been called tight.

Pretty consistent and not a lot of penalties.

Fins tried a cross ice pass in our end, they took a chance, our #12, Marleau I think got some of it, should have got all of it, led to the shot that was tipped in.
A little thing like that caused, or could have prevented the goal.
We will get it back in the 3rd.

Must say the U.S appears to be playing better than we are!! Crosby has been a no show, maybe we expect to much of him.

The US has come out flying right from day one. As in the last 3 olympics Canada starts off chugging slowly and building momentum. It worked in SLC and Van -- not so much in Turin. If the US has a bad night they are going to completely collapse. Canada is much more relaxed -- some would say too relaxed. They dominated the play tonight but ran into a great goalie and a defense that kept them on the outside most of the night.

Crosby has every opponent focused on him and shadowing him the whole time. They match their best players with his line every time. Our other lines are then freed up to work and that is where most of the goals have come from. I think Sid is doing exactly what the coach wants him to.

The US is second and Canada third due to goal diff. The US will play the Czechs or Slovaks and will likely move to the semis. Assuming Canada beats the Swiss or Latvians in their quarter final, then it will be a Canada-US semi final.

Russians will destroy Norway but there is no guarantee they will get past the Fins after that. Swedes will easily take care of the winner of Slovenia and Austria and meet the winner of Finland-Russia in the semis.

My prediction is a Canada or US vs Russia gold medal game.

Yep and it might be the end of us skating away from the hit. It's about them not wanting the puck but when you give them a feeling to handle the puck a little longer with no consequences these guys can make things happen because there is so much talent in a tournament like this one.

He was the Latvian national team hc before he went to Buffalo. Part of his contract stated that he had to be released to coach during the Olympics

Marcel roque coaching china curling. Pierre leaders coaching Russian bobsled. Most coaches of dominant countries coach other national teams in other sports, especially those without our history it's normal to have a emerging hockey place like Latvia hire a experienced coach

I think it's tough for Ted to get a good job because he doesn't have a filter speaks his mind tells it like it is and his players love him and more loyal to him than the office. I wish he was coaching in Alberta but I don't see his talents being appreciated by upstairs in either city.

The offense spent 75-80% of the game in the Latvian zone. They hit a hot goalie and had a ton of chances that skittered the wrong way. This could just as easily been a 12-1 game.

Crosby had a lot of close misses that a centimeter or two the other way would have been goals. He made some great passes that his teammates couldn't handle and Canada pretty much dominated puck possession when he was on the ice.

Crosby didn't "show up" last time around either -- until he did.

Yup, but Canada was defending well and keeping them to the outside. Watching them take the neutral zone and then starting in, they were starting to gamble a lot.


Their PK was spectacular in the first, especially considering Canada's offense.

Honestly, not taking anything from Sweden, but Canada played a great game, very little for Sweden to go on.

Hahahahaha, what?! The US was the hottest team going into the quarters and semis and Canada was looking very ordinary. I would've bet on Canada to win 100x over. In fact, my #1 and #2 prediction pre-tourny were dead on (I had Russia at 3rd). You didn't watch any Canada and US games if you weren't worried going into the game against the Americans, Canada was the underdog judging by the previous games. 10 minutes into the game it wasn't difficult to see that Canada was the better team, same as in today's game. You clearly do not know anything about hockey or being an objective fan if you believe I should be "ashamed of myself" for being worried about my under performing team going into a game against a hot team. I've supported the team 110% and watched hundreds of Team Canada games in my life, some live and most at ridiculous hours, how dare you tell me I should be ashamed.

If gloves are glued to the hands sticks get higher. Due to the nature of hockey if the same teams played in a league and had a long schedule there would inevitably be tillys, nature of the game man.

Claritin and a few other anti-histamenes taken for allergies contains pseudo-ephedrine. This is a banned substance but he's had allergies for years so he's definitely not taking it for "performance enhancement". Last Olympics, a guy got a pass for the exact same situation, so why drop the hammer now?
