After a 10+ year hiatus, I'm attempting to get back into it. It's mostly explained in this past thread....

At any rate, my eldest Shrub (12) and I are planning a winter ascent of Heart Mountain tomorrow. Sort of a last minute thing with low expectations.

With that being said, it would be fun to put together a number of group climbs through the course of the year. Especially for beginners.

The only thing I scramble now is eggs. I used to enjoy climbing and hiking, but my knees don't seem to like me doing that much anymore.

Mine is my shoulders. Torn both rotator cuffs, bouldering use to be my biggest hobby. My knees are still doing okay but I have three knee injuries that I'm sure will be catching up to me if a few years.

Bit confused here, looking over a list of scrambles in the eastern Rockies, when does scrambling become climbing? They All look like potential , sudden altitude loss is possible.

Scrambling becomes climbing once you bring a rope into the picture. Unless of course you are talking about free soloing or bouldering which further muddies the waters...

Used to do a scramble a week for a couple summers. Been up Smuts and several other of the difficults in Kane's book. Lots of fun! Try out Mount Arethusa, short, no long scree grinds, some "fun" parts and it's rare to see anyone in that valley.

Picked this book up at a yard sale, just out of curiosity. Would think it's very worthwhile for someone who wants to risk his neck. Lots of K country content in there.

There's also this one available too.

I've always used Alan Kane's book suggested by Grizz Adams, but this looks like a worthwhile investment as well, especially for anyone headed to the south end of the province.

Happy scrambles!

Funny story.....

I started this game back in '95 after I first moved to town. It started off as drunken bravado one Saturday night at the Country Roads Saloon after winning an arm wrestling match I believe. Next day we head west hungover to the hilt and drive until we arbitrarily picked a hill and crawled up it (one guy was still in his cowboy costume from the night before.)

This became a bit of a weekend tradition. Probably did a dozen summits before picking Kane's book up and realizing there were staging areas and trails. Made things much easier than parking in the ditch and bush wacking for hours! lol

Just finished putting together the vid and should have everything uploaded by morning and hopefully a proper thread up tomorrow sometime. 'Twas a good day. :)
