When I say huge explosion I do mean right beneath them :-) Props to the deer and their reaction time.

Doesn't mean the second one made it.
It could very well have died from blast lung.

troubling. they were obviously monitoring the blast, yet made no effort to protect wildlife.

You can see the 2nd one escape. FS

Escape doesn't mean it survived. The concussion of a blast that size likely caused enough internal injuries to kill the animal.
I also found that video disturbing. Not much effort made to protect those animals.

Was not in Alberta or BC. Otherwise illegal blasting signals. It don't work that way.

The camera could have been a gopro set up, doesn't necessarily mean they had live coverage.

First thing I thought of as well.

there's 3 deer.

and maybe the one you assume managed to get away was an entirely different deer that the one that looked like it was blown up.

someone adjusts the camera at the start of the video.

lucky deer , appears the corner was not loaded to the back , he or she may do okay as some of the force goes up and the rest is adsorbed by the rock . debris is the killer but deer are super tough.

Having just watched the clip and finding it somewhat confusing and disturbing too.
Wouldnt F&W have some policy written about blasting with Wildlife in close proximity?
Are the blasting signals a Canadian Standard or different in each Province?
Just asking on the signals and just saying about my feelings towards the deer.

mining profits are worth a lot more than a couple deer.Thousands more get hit on roadways but there is not as much concern there. It is frustrating to see that happen but it is a lot more important to keep people employed and schedules met over a chance that we might lose a few deer.

Sorry guys. I've been around a lot of blasts like that, that deer on the hill would not make it.
