The Polaris 800 Engine is a proven engine . I have had a couple in side x sides. I know a few guys with the 800 quad and they are pretty happy with them .

We currently have 3 polaris atv's. Latest purchase was a 850xp. We are happy with them. Minimal repaires so far

i have had several 800 sportsmans and onlyuse them for hunting/ in the bush purposes. they have there issue like any other brand but i have been very happy with mine overall.

the torque of the 800 idling over stumps and deadfall is great compared to something in the 500 cc range, i find that the differnce from a 500 to a 800 class atv is like comparing a gas to a diesel, they just have great torque and idle through anything .

I have an 850 XP , love it . Only thing I have heard is that the 800 is harder on gas than the 850, not sure why, but that's what I was told.

The Sportsman is a great bike and has been very proven through its history. I have had 4 since 2002 ( 2-500's a 700 and a 800) and all have been good. Mine hunt,Fish summer and winter, and plow snow and joy ride. Each of course had some little things go wrong but the newer replacement had those issues fixed and so on ( like every brand) Yes, the xp model is the cadilac model, but for a quality bike into the big bore market at a little less inexpensive price the sportsman has everything. The ride is still better with the struts then some of the other brands.
Ride it with respect and it will treat you well for a long time!

Not a Polaris fan but the exhaust note alone would be enough to upgrade to the xp model IMO.
