We saw the blue man group, took a ride on the gondola at the Venetian.

The city bus is the best way to get around and is cheap. Buy a daily pass for $8 and it takes you just about anyplace you want to go.

Watched the fountain show at the Belagio from the top of the Eiffel tower.

At the name brand places it sure is. You can find cheaper food and drinks but if its popular its expensive.

I really enjoyed the $9.95 Prime rib dinner at the Mad Onion in the Hooters Hotel and Casino. Best thing is it is available 24/7.

As for booze its better to buy at the grocery or convenience store and just drink where you want. Perfectly fine to walk around the strip drinking from the bottle of your choice.

: is it expensive for food & drinks there.

Yes and no. You can eat cheap however some of the best restaurants in the world are on the strip. Not cheap but man will you enjoy it.

I went to a burger joint in NY NY, order the garlic fries if you go.

Best thing to do in Vegas, show up with no itinerary, just go with the flow and leave your watch in the room safe.

Roller coaster at NY NY. Rides at the top of the Stratosphere are amazing , and look into the buffet at the Luxor. Your feet will probably be sore, you may walk like John Wayne at the airport on the way home! Have fun!!!

Going shortly as well, Again. Decided on 5 days, after you write off travel time, better to have a little more. Did the Grand Canyon north and South, both very worthwhile. Gonna rent a car for two days and go to Death Valley and area. Anybody been to Ubehebe Crater? Swap meet on Frid, Sat, Sun. just north of downtown. Gonna zip line down Fremont Street, just for the Hell of it. If you've never been there, gotta do the Valley of Fire, just beyond belief. Horseback ride and barbecue at Red Rock Canyon should be good as well. Wife insists on some slot time. Cheap tour, like 10 bucks buys you a day and meal at Laughlin. Lots of interesting things to see, just wandering through the Hotels on the strip. Not sure if the Titanic exhibit is still on at the Luxor, but a bit pricey. Cheap beer and margaritas to be had just of the sidewalk on the strip, same on Fremont Street. Gotta see the light show. 4 days and you'll just scratch the surface. Get your picture taken with interesting people.:D

The Gun Store is a MUST!
Pretty much any club you hit will be expensive. I found there was gas stats near the south end of the Strip that had the best price for beer. It was across form the MGM. I was staying at the Luxor so it was a short walk. Depends where you're staying. Rent a scooter for the day. Best way to see the strip!

Wicked Spoon buffet at the Cosmo. Biggest buffet in Vegas if I remember correctly. If you can think of it, they have it. Freemont St. is a must just so you can see old Vegas. Go through the old casinos down there - most of em are gross but its just cool for the nostalgia factor. If body world is still at the Luxor that is worth checking out. I agree with everyone about shooting some guns, but I'd recommend going to Discount Firearms: The Machine Gun Experience instead of the Gun Store. It's much cheaper and they have all the same stuff. They also have a free shuttle service to take to you and from your hotel. The outdoor outlet mall would likely be a hit with the wife. The mall inside Caesar's is cool but very high end. Fashion Show mall is another place the wife might like. As was said before, check out the Bellagio fountains and the Treasure Island pirate show. Any of the shows are good - just pick one that you think will tickle your fancy. They are expensive, but its not like its something you're going to do everyday.

Batista's Hole in the Wall (behind Flamingo) has been there forever and is popular for Italian as well as bottomless red and white wine (of the $10/bottle quality - but still ok). Ellis Island Casino (off Koval behind Ballys) has the best $5.00 steak and eggs I've ever had.

Both restaurants are super reasonably priced and awesome for people watching as a lot of the old vegas folks frequent there. Ellis Island also has a great microbrewery/sports bar on site so while your wife is gaming you can enjoy 2$ pints that would rival Big Rock.

Damn, now I want to go back!

Edit: We also went to the north outlet mall and it was great shopping for both men and women.

Going on monday, (4th time). Take comfortable shoes, tell you wife as this is not a place for heels or boots. Good running shoes will be her best friend. I dont gamble much either and there is so much to do that you can still fill your days. Free stuff at most casinos, even just seeing the inside of each casino is amazing. Fountains at Bellagio, Pirate show, Eiffel Tower (costs a little) but amazing at night (time it when the fountains are going off), inside flower display at Bellagio (amazing even if it is flowers lol), chocolate factory, M&M Store, Coke Store, all great to see. Best thing is get on the bus (duece or double duece), pay your daily fare $8 or buy a pass for a few days and right this thing everywhere. It goes from one end to the other end. Unlimited rides with a daily pass. Takes you to the old strip which is a must to see at night and will also take the wife shopping at the outlet malls (on each end). Take a bag to carry a bottle of water, a jacket and whatever souveniers you pick up along that day. Avoid taxi's if you can as they will take around in circles. If you want to go to shows, there are booths called tickets tonight along the strip, you can get tickets for that day at cheaper prices. Have a great time.

Stayed at the Luxor last time, neat place but dirty and dated now.
I hate Vegas; dirty, stinks of cigarettes everywhere, far too expensive for what you get.

Great post, x2 on all of this.
Just to echo Ray, some of the biggest ones IMO..
-If it's your first time, get ready to do some walking. Good shoes, pack light, carry water.
-Definitely buy convenience store booze as opposed to casino/restaurant.
-Do check out as many of the big casinos as possible. I'm not an architecture guy- or even a big scenic/touristy type in general- but each one is incredible in its own way.

Only a couple things to add..
-Contrary to what a lot of people say, slots are not the best places for cheap booze, in my experience. The waitresses come slow (unless you tip well, and in that case you might as well be sitting some place nice and buying your drinks at full price), the drinks are often weak, and if you're not a smoker you might find it tough to get an open chair where you can breathe.
-Check out the roof top bar of the Rio at night, if you can. The music was awful- some silly dance crap- but what an incredible view of the strip. And I swear they were pouring quadruples.

I know it sounds bizzare but Carrot Top was one of the best shows I have seen in Vegas and I have seen a bunch including most of the Circ. shows. If your wife insits on seeing one that I recomend the Beatles one ( Love).

If you are at the Luxor I recomend trying to get a tower room over the Pyramid as they are nicer and cleaner.

We go to Vegas about twice a year because the old lady is a shopper.

Just saw George Strait there a few weeks ago and was awesome as usual.

2 restaurants you need to check out (GOOGLE)
and wont break the bank

Hash House a go go for breakfast

Hot and juicy Crawfish for dinner. Best crab in Vegas.

Tip!!! slide the person who is doing your check in some cash with your ID and it will be worth your while. Depending on what hotel we are at and what day it is I usually give between 20-50 and have been upgraded to suites and recieved free dinner vouchers etc. You will get more if you are checking in during the week as opposed to weekend.

Hey going to Vegas for the first time pretty excited, what are some cool places to check out, don't gamble much but want to have a great time with the wife.

I was there at the end of September & stayed at the Luxor in the west tower & it was fine.
The buffet there is great ( get there early ) & they have a $15 burger in their lounge, but it was worth it.
When you look north up the strip it looks walkable, & for some it is, but believe me it is a long walk!
I bought a bus pass for $20 that was good for 3 days & never used a cab.It will even take you downtown to the old strip.
I think that the trip up the Eiffel Tower ( $14 when I was there ) is worth it. I went when it was dark so the Bellagio fountains & the rest of the view was spectacular.
Vegas is an amazing place & everyone should see it at least once.
You can have a great time there without gambling & spending a ton of money because there are so many other thing to do.
The best advice I can give you is do a lot of research on google.
It will save you a lot of money.
Have a great time!

If you have time, go to black canyon and rent a 60hp fishing boat and drive up the river to Hoover Dam.

Cirque O is worth seeing.

If your lady wants to shop, let her shop then head over to Clarke County Range and do a little skeet/sporting clay shooting or shoot a 22 pistol at their pistol/rifle range.... just make sure to pack a hat. You can rent the O/U shotgun or pistol for something like $20/day.

Costco is fairly close to the range.... you can pick up your favorite beverage on the way back from the range. I recommend Sierra Nevada Beer.

+1 for the Costco stop...best bet is to hit Costco whilst taking the cab from the airport on the way to check in at the hotel.Load up the rooms bar fridge with cheap bevvies.

Don't forget that every street corner someone will offer you free tickets to something. Most want you to go to try to sell you a time share. Depending on your timeframe, sitting in a timeshare sales pitch can be ok. We did one and got a great lunch buffet, tickets to blue man group, dinner tickets, and tickets to a couple other shows, and only cost a couple hours.

One other tip. If you want to maximize seeing the sights then consider renting a car. It’s very easy to do at that airport and quite reasonable. We rented a full size Altima with unlimited mileage for a week for $140.

If you do rent a car - Bring a GPS! Best decision we made. Easy to find the outlet malls, Costco, sport shops, etc. Vegas for the first time can be intimidating trying to find your way in a car and the GPS was a godsend. Also, most hotels have free parking.

See the Mob Experience at the Tropicana Hotel, wife thoroughly enjoyed this. Battlefield Vegas was good, but there are lots of them try to go in the morning, not as busy.

Saw Shania Twain, great show. Good aquarium in one of the hotels, I forget which. You'll be impressed just walking the strip, the hotels are MASSIVE and most usually have something to see in them. Food and drinks are expensive in the restaurants.

They also have a fun double decker bus tour of the city we enjoyed.

Ya you have to see the lights and sights of the strip but honestly for me Freemont St. Is where it's at. Good live music all night, cheaper grub, cheaper booze, and cheaper tables. Much more casual atmosphere and less suit and tie types. Our next trip in November we plan on staying at the Nugget and visit the strip only for a show or two. Lots of great deals to be had for packages and affordable places to eat and drink...did I mention I'm cheap? Have fun!

Bump!!!!

Used the search and thought I'd bump this one, and read a few others.

We seem to be going down for a George strait show in April and wondering what else to do as I have never been, except in the airport for couple hour layover.
Going with wife and another couple with like interests, and them 3 have been before.

So far I think the valley of fire, I'd like to shoot some guns, maybe fish 1/2 day (lake mead?), will nee to tour the strip I guess as never seen it. Just looking for other stuff besides getting wasted and pulling levers, will do that once to say I did :). What all the other AO'ers like to do ?!?!

We're staying at the sratosphere, and have a table booked at that tower restaurant so far, and George strait show.

Honestly, there's so many things to do and see, it's like asking someone "what car should I buy or what colour should I paint my house?".
Everyone will have different opinions. There's a real good breakdown of different "types" of Vegas trips, along with tips at Vegas.com
(https://www.vegas.com/traveltips/) Look under "Vegas Guide". Everything from a "family trip" to a "sex filled trip".

One thing guaranteed; you will do A LOT OF WALKING!!!!!!!! BRING COMFORTABLE SHOES!!! You might say "oh I know, we'll be walking lots". No. You will be walking GOD ALMIGHTY MARATHONS. I mean like blisters on your feet, walking. Did I say a lot of walking?!!! A lot of walking!! When someone tells you "oh it's just across the street and the far end of the Casino"...that is a 20-30 minute walk!!

And I really hate to tell you this now, but the Strat is the lowest of the low as far as Hotels go. Only the Excalibur and Circus Circus compare to it's low quality. Hence why it's cheaper than anywhere else.
Also it's at the very North end of the strip. Way too far to walk from to enjoy the rest of the Strip. Grab a cab down to around the Bellagio if you want to look at the popular touristy strip places.

Also note: FOOD IS NOT CHEAP despite what people tell you. Especially with 40% being tacked onto the price for conversion.

And how long are you staying? If it's just a few nights, a fishing trip to Meade would be hard pressed. The Hoover Dam or Red Rock Canyon is a great day trip if you want to get away from the lights and enjoy the outdoor scenery.

Hash house a go go don't ask what hotel it was in but good God unreal and cheap food and try and eat it all, Freemont freaks are entertaining and it's a good vibe there as well I like it better than the strip other than checking out some hotels and shows and good shoes I wasn't prepared for how much walking we were gonna do the first time we went.

I thought Vegas would mean lots of drunk tourists playing poker and I could handle my own or maybe make some dollars. Totally wrong. Sat down at Caesars Palace and it was all pros even at the lower stakes. All dudes dead serious, head phones on, everyone knew everyone, big stacks. I lasted a little while until they realized I wasn't baller and that was the end of me, haha.

My fiancee and I did a heli-tour of the Grand Canyon when we were there. Got picked up in a limo at the hotel, flew out, landed down inside, drank some champagne and headed back to town. Took like 3 hours out of our day, rather than the long trip if you drive. It was pretty sweet, but rather pricey. My mom bought it for us as a gift otherwise we wouldn't have done it. But highly recommend if funds aren't a big issue. Amazing experience.

^ THIS. Most of those Vegas tables have guys with at least a $2,000 bankroll for just that sitting. Some higher, 3,4 even $5,000. If you're just playing with a few hundred bucks at a 1-2 NL table, you'll last about 20 minutes.

Yep I got maybe 35 minutes in. When I bought it the guy beside me was like I'll sell you some chips. Passed him 200 bucks. "Just 2" he says? I was like ugh. Haha.

Get some pizza at the New York pizza shop in New York, New York if you happen to be down that way. Food is definitely expensive, and with how busy we were we hit this joint up lots.

I always tell people on their first trip to Vegas to make sure they claim the cash over $10,000 at customs coming home. They find out later all those fancy hotels don't get paid for by people winning.

I agree about the bankrolls & pros, but don't kid yourself, you can make money with a $250 buy-in. I was down there & played for 10 nights and never paid more than $350 buy-in at the 1-2 tables and only ended up broke once. 6 days up between $875-$150, 2 days even & 2 days down. I ended up on the + side after my 2 week trip...so it can be done. Unfortunately most people are only there for 3-4 nights get intimidated by the pros (there are a lot) or impatient, or end up at a table with a lot of loose players and lose their stack. Most want to say they played in Vegas at least and get caught up in the moment! Stick to the limit games you don't want to do the no limit thing.

Just have fun...it can be an amazing city you will want to go back to or never see again:scared0018:

Hash house a go go don't ask what hotel it was in but good God unreal and cheap food and try and eat it all, Freemont freaks are entertaining and it's a good vibe there as well I like it better than the strip other than checking out some hotels and shows and good shoes I wasn't prepared for how much walking we were gonna do the first time we went.

X2 on the "Freemont Freaks" by far the cheapest entertainment in Vagas. I could have spent days people watching....LOL

Rented quads in the Valley of Fire one Xmas trip.
Almost too much fun.
Pervasive pink dust makes me wish I had taken some disposable Painters Coveralls.
Had to cross the Casino Floor to get back to our Elevator banks and the crowds were parting for us.

We had planned to go to Vegas in April, but now with the low dollar, we decided to go else where but the US.

A 6 or 7 dollar beer will turn into a $10.00 beer.

Buy tall boy cans at the convenience stores for like 2 bucks and get smashed on that.

Hash House A GO GO is a great place for breakfast. Try the sage fried chicken benedict. Make sure there is someone with you to share! No need to each order something. I am sure my side order of bacon was a full pound.

Vegas off road experience is pretty awesome if you are into that kind of thing.
Jumping a truck is just way too cool. Went in November and will probably go back to do it again in Feb. It was a lot of fun.

They will pick you up from the strip

Hash house is located in the old imperial palace. I think it might be called the quad or the Link now. It has had about 3 or 4 different names in the past 5 years

No problem! You probably could do the ride along as long as he is physically big enough, the trucks have 2 seats with 5 point harness.

OH NICE! Have fun! You need to do at least 5 laps. I did 7 but wanted to do more. You hit it harder each lap so the first 3 are kida wasted LOL. But once you get the hang of it you can get some big air. I got about 30' at 8' in the air for my best.

People think we are nutz cuz we go to vegas with our 6 and 8 year old but there is a lot to do there besides getting wasted and gambling .... plus my sister lives there so we have a place to stay and a vehicle :)

Darren I agree...we have 2 boys 10 & 7 that have been to Vegas a dozen times already (folks winter down there). There is a lot more to that city other than just casinos, when you stay for longer than the typical 4 day weekend you can explore. I love that place and always have fun doing or seeing something new.
Question: where is that last pic of the "beach/pool"? Is that Mandalay or Tahiti village?

That is Tahiti Village. When we were there in Nov my sister just had her second child so we wanted to give them some space (and get some sleep!!). We stayed there for 1 weeks. It worked out great ... will probably do that again next time. We didn't spend much time there but the kids really liked the sand beach pool and the lazy river (pool loop with a current you can sit in a tube and it pushed you around the loop). I enjoyed a beer or 2 while the kids were playing and my wife enjoyed the outlet mall across the street (she will not drive in Vegas). Good location right on Las Vegas BLVD just south of the action (just south of the "fabulous las vegas" sign). Close to my sisters house

Decent place to stay with kids (for us anyway).

Typical tho the "activities" people or whatever you call them are a front for time share sales..... Went over and in 20 seconds heard about the free stuff we could do with no catch!!! Me "Great!!! Let us get rid of our bags and we will be right back". Never went back and never answered the phone in the room and we didn't get hassled at all.

We're staying at the sratosphere, and have a table booked at that tower restaurant so far, and George strait show.
feel free to PM up until my career change i was a 4 x year visitor..I prefer Freemon Streeet but do alot of things around the city

I figured it was there...we visited it a while back but didn't stay there (just looked at it possibly for another time). We have friends that let us stay at their condo just behind ballys. Tough to beat the price (free) but might stay at tahiti in April for my bros wedding.
