View Full Version : Swiss Arms/RCMP Reclassifying Firearms Petition

HunterDave
02-27-2014, 03:08 PM
I'm not much of a petition type of guy but I signed this one.

"The RCMP has added the Swiss Arms Classic Green carbine to the list of firearms they decided is now prohibited. After a decade of allowing Canadians to buy this freely as a non-restricted firearm.

We the undersigned do not agree with the RCMP's ability to reclassify firearms as they wish and formally request the government to remove this ability out of the hands of the RCMP organization realm of powers."

Linked to face book with this message...

This is what happens when we have our rights taken away not only as Canadians but as Canadian Gun owners....the Government turns everyday law abiding people into people who could face jail time and criminal records for life. Not to mention they are confiscating private property which goes against what the country was built on. Whether you own firearms or not this is against our fundamental rights as all Canadians.

Done. #1230. Our firearms legislation needs reform. Effective legislation, and stiff penalties for contravention not this convoluted mess we currently have to deal with. Our government needs to take all law making capabilities away from those that enforce them and design legislation that addresses the problem, not make 100% law abiding citizens overnight felons.

As much as I would like to sign I did not.

This third party sites are source for spammers and identity theft and what not.
I think it would be better to ask the NFA Canada or AFGA or any identifiable web site that are related to or have the same interest to start the petition.

I know, I know, this will require additional band width and server memory but at least we are legit.

This third party sites are equip with this equipment for their own purpose and most of the time take advantage of the people who are passionate about this things.

Just my 2 cents.

Suckers.

These online petitions mean absolutely nothing. Never have, never will. You want to start a petition? The only one that ever holds any weight at all is one where you stand on the corner and get real signatures from real people.

PT Barnum was correct.

I don't agree with these moronic changes but putting your name on an internet petition is not going to do anything at all EVER. Its boots on the ground, letters to MP's actual protests not some rightous indignation on an internet forum.

I disagree DO. If enough people express their discontent with something then the government will take notice. If this petition went viral and a million people participated in it I'm pretty sure that the media would say something about it and the government would notice.

...and will continue doing what they feel is necessary and/or in its own best interests. They always have and always will (check history of any governments in the past century).

If this, if that..... in the grand scheme of it all, people only care when it's self serving.

He has a point folks.
If anyone is discussing civil disobedience etc... they best send letters the old fashioned way or do it on a land line.

Harper and his brown shirts have made sure that they can monitor everythung else for "criminal" activity or anything that threatens security.

Seriously...I would be very careful what is said here...lest it ends up as evidence.

http://www.nominaterobanders.com/firearms_petition

The only problem that I could see with this petition is that you may find that firearms owners that don't vote Conservative will be reluctant to sign this petition.....perhaps even Conservatives that just don't like the person that started it. Just sayin'.......

32-40win
03-05-2014, 12:38 AM
If you actually inquire as to how a petition is looked at, on the "importance" level in political circles, it is recognized as only representing one vote each per the number of people that signed it. They are essentially ignored unless they are huge numbers, and are handwritten.
One handwritten letter is recognized as 400 votes.
Ask your MP or a campaign organizer about that.
Someone has to actually be concerned to write a letter, or sit at a table to take signatures, that means something to a politician.
Internet petitions are not worth much at all, in the scheme of things.

No...the problem with all these petitions popping up is that it weakens the strength of every other like...petition.

Its like having several right or left wing parties splitting the vote.

The only way to prevent that from happening is to sign all of them and once folks do that... their personal legitimacy startes to look shakey.

To be clear... I'm pretty sure that it is not just a happy co-incidence that about a holf dozen different petitions have popped up in the last few days.

Some might be decoys designed to distract folks from real petitions and water down the strength of those that will really be forewarded to Ottawa.
Or...worse still that we will find our names on an anti-petition that used a false front to fool us.

Just sayin folks... we've seen a lot of sleeper members and new members pop up here this week. If you think that all of em are our friends... think again.

My thought is that guys should stick to the ones they know are legit and in my mind that is the first one that came out from the NFA.
