Got drawn in 353 this year for bull moose, I've been up their the past two weekends saw nothing. First trip we headed into the bush about 25KM north of fox creek, then drove another 15km into bush spent 3 days saw nothing. Second trip we went down simmonite road about 30KM, camped of a cut line quaded all day to cover ground and never spooked up nothing never saw nothing. I was planning to head back for the last weekend of October, i have no idea were to go. if there is anybody with any helpful hints, or anyone that have seen moose in the area, any info would be much appreciated. Thank you

Try getting off of the quad and walking, look for tracks, wallows and other sign. If you don't see any keep walking. While I have seen plenty of moose from the roads and trails I see more of them in remote hard to get into areas.

That was my idea in going 50k back in the bush. But it is hard to get around in water up to your waist. Quads are useless unless it floats.

Looks like the ''cow killing'' has started to pay off.
If you want to decimate a moose population start giving out a bunch of cow tags and get rid of the mature breeding cows......... brilliant.

I also work in the oilpatch and I'm sure you'll find a moose if you spend a couple of days on the west side of the Bigstone at 32k. Good population in there and some very moose friendly cutblocks. If you find the cutblock with a pile of dried birch at the top of the ridge please leave it:lol: That is my supply for the next five years!!

I have moose hunted right beside that zone since 2001. we always got into moose daily until last year when we saw a cow and calf twice over 7 days. The previous winter was very cold with lots of snow and there were a lot of reports of a substantial moose die off.

I also have a moose tag for this zone and am heading up this weekend and then again the first of November. Is it still extremely wet up there?
Not sure if it is best to enter from the east side or the west? Any suggestions would be great.

The calf thing is half ok, IMO , as lots don't survive anyway. Killing a cow basically kills 2 moose instantly ( if with calf ) and a swack more that it will never have.
Correct me if I'm wrong , but wasn't this to ''reduce'' the moose pop. to reduce wolf #'s to help with the caribou near the area ???
I used to hunt that area with no problem finding moose. After they started the ''cow cull'' I figured that area was going to be toast soon enough , so changed spots.
Sounds like my suspiscions may be correct ?

I just returned from Grande Prairie on the weekend and had a half day to drive through 353 as I had a bull tag for there also. I hunted the west side off the forestry trunk road from the Simonette road south and was trying to cover as much ground as I could in the three hours I had to hunt. I was fortunate enoung to shoot a nice bull just off an old lease road late in the afternoon. I will post some pics and the story on a new thread this afternoon.

We have pulled a cow moose out of 353 the last 2 years.
Last year as we were cleaning the cow, 4 more moose walked past - 2 calves, 1 cow and a bull.
They're in there - you just have to be willing to get off the roads

If you have one of the cow draws then if possible wait till the snow hits and you will see the moose come out of the wood work in this zone with the large amount of cow tagsrecently and all the oil activity they are in the quite spots and once the snow hits they wil be out longer in the cutblocks.
