Try Crappy Tire for an anchor

The Vanity Cup tournament in Nipawin Sask is a good time. It's the first weekend in Oct, they just held it back on the 4th-5th. Dress warm cause it usually snows.
There are some huge fish there and for the week before the tournament there is a 1000$ per day for the biggest fish.
50 000$ for 1st place.

If you are looking for something different then walleye there are a number of bass tournaments in Montana that are not that far away and a bunch in idaho. They usually have good prizes and if you fish well they allow you to move on to fish larger tournaments all over the US. PM me if your interested I can prodive you with more information.

The SAWT here in Southern Ab are alot of fun, I have fished mostly Sask Tournaments but this year gave a couple southern ones a go.One good thing about these are that they pay prize money daily to 10th spot so you stand a good chance at winning back some cash.

As far as anchors go, go to Cambodian tire and pick up a 15lb navy anchor and add 5ft of 1/4" chain and some 3/8 nylon rope, gauranteed to hold....depending on the size of your rig..

I hope you start off small. Go for the tournaments with a lower entry fee unless your 100 % positive you can stan up to some of the best fishermen around.Consider going for ice fishin tournament over winter just to get the idea I know of at least 2 . Rumwal adventures hots one at wabbamun , and then the gull lake derby. Also go for fun go for an online tournament. That requires a measureing tape , and 2 pictures aswell as the sign. Might be something fun to enter.

Check out the fishin hole , I just picked up a deasent anchor in the spring. I also like drift socks. Not sure if youve thought about that but awesome awesome awesome invention. I use mine with the anchor . I ancor down the front of the boat and drift sock off the back . Very happy with it.

The gowalleye.com site listed above has quite a few links for the various tournaments. Tournament dates/posters usually start coming out about February or so. The SAWT tournaments are usually 75 boat fields and the NAWT tournaments are 100 boat fields. There are a few non trail tournaments in Alberta as well, most notably the Anglers cup (75K first prize) and the Golden (50k first prize). These are both 1000.00 entry fee tournaments. Most trail tournaments are about 300.00-350.00 per 2 person team. Payouts on the NAWT are usually about 10k for first place. The Moose Lake tournament fills very quickly so if you are considering fishing Moose especially, you will want to get your entry fee in soon after the posters come out.

Thanks packhunter how many swat tournaments do you fish in a year??.

yeah I am real excited to fish my first tournament.

also i have a question that you might be able to answer.

what does it mean to "cull" fish? I have looked at many definitions and i can't understand what there trying to say.

"In fishing tournaments, culling refers to releasing smaller fish that won't be used to count towards an angler's total weight. For instance, if an angler is allowed to weigh in only 4 fish, he might keep his first four 2 pound fish in the livewell until he starts to catch bigger fish. As he catches bigger fish, he can release (or cull) the smaller fish."

culling is when you have your 5 fish limit for example, and release a smaller fish and replace it with a larger one. This is illegal in alberta , even in a tournament situation.Which replaceing these smaller fish gives you a heavyer bag. I think that should help.

ok so say you have a walleye on u get it to the boat make sure its legal measurement wise then you drop in the live well...

then say 1h later u get your limit but they are all 1-2 pound range

then last 5 mins u get a hawg on I'm talken a tournament winner
you get it to the boat but have to release it cause you have your limit??

Scroll down on this link, these are the official rules of the Moose Lake tourny, might answer a lot of your questions. ,Most tournaments in Alberta you are only allowed 2 fish in the livewell at one time, you must weigh in at least twice per day.Total fish weigh in per day is 4

I suppose everyone has their favourite lake and tournament and Moose is definetly mine. Sean and Terry Hughes and the Beaver Lake Fish and Game put on a great tournament, free breakfasts, steak supper. Moose has really come into its own the last few years with nice fish being caught from one end of the lake to the other. Lots of parking, excellent boat launch, camping at the lake and if you want to stay in a room you are close to Bonnyville as well.
This is the most popular tournament on the NAWT and last year it filled very early. If you only do one tournament next year or even if you do a dozen John, don't miss the Moose Lake tourny, a class act with great fishing you cant beat that!!!

A couple of pre-fish Moose Lake eyes from a couple of years back
