What's with fishing show hosts wearing these fishing buffs lately? Any of you guys wear them? Personally, I think it looks dumb. What exactly is it for? UV protection from the sun? Sunscreen not good enough I guess. Lol!

No chemicals/more clothing > chemicals.

I like mine (UV Buff) because it can protect me in the summer, but in a good dry Alberta wind and in winter they can keep your face quite warm from your breath.

Oh boy.

Stay out of the flyfishing forum...

I think it's....well....what can I say, I'm not really into fashion on the water.

Maybe if Carhardt came out with something a little more.....rugged.

They're originally for fishing flats where the sun is much more intense and causes more serious effects from the reflected uv but they seem to have migrated here more for looks than functionality. I personally will wear one sometimes but not over my face, just to keep the sun off the back of my neck. They are quite nice to have in the winter as well when your fishing for warmth

i tried one two years ago and find them great although kinda pricey. i used them specifically because i always got bad sunburns on the back of my neck and ears so i use it for that purpose and does well. i got the camouflage one, and is very breathable been using them ever since.

I like em for the same reason, sun protection along with being able to spray them with bug dope and not my skin. I found them handy a few times during large hatches keeping the bugs out of your mouth.

What's wrong with flyfishing forum?

Nothin wrong with it. Fly guys just really like their buffs.

Buff really do have a good use.

Back in the day I would use an additional t-shirt in the same manner.

Gotta protect yourself from the sun.

although i dont use them i know alot of salt water guides and fishermen that use them. the sun and wind takes its toll on your skin over time, and looking at my old mans weathered skin from 40 years of fishing, i dont blame anyone for wearing them.

yes I wear them ..I fish at 5400 ft and the reflection off the water is to much

I also don't like to use chemicals on my body

I have a buff I bought for flats fishing in Mexico where I was on the water all day and it was very hot and sunny. Guides wore them and so did I. I think it was effective. I've never worn it in Canada. Never even thought of it actually.

was looking at the one that attaches to the back of the hat, great idea for down this way in the hot summer sun.

x2 sun protection is a good thing.

I'm another one that doesn't use chemicals on my skin -sunscreen, or insect repellent. This body is a temple! (more like a cathedral, but that's another story).
I use buffs all the time, both hunting and fishing. I even wear one under my hat sometimes to keep it from blowing off my shiny head!
