I didn't want to bung up the "Saturday Drive" thread with unrealated stuff, so here it is.

He's the boat in question:

Cool photo's Canishunter, got any other pics of that skeg guard?

What size motor is that Honda?

The motor is a 20HP. I've got an ETEC30 for this boat also, but I don't have a prop-guard built for it yet, so it is confined to the lakes for now. Even with a prop guard, I won't run the 30HP on rivers this small. The reason for this is that it's a lot heavier to flip up when I hit bottom and it happens often on skinnier stretches. The big guy will just be used on lakes and the Peace River.

With this prop guard, I run a stainless prop for extra security as I'm often in very remote areas. This outboard was originally on my freighter canoe, and it's seen some pretty gnarly rivers without any guff. Before I had the bars on on the sides of it (2 on each side with the halfmoon divots along the edge) I nailed a few rocks pretty good. The prop got pretty dinged up but I was easily able to hammer and file it back into new condition - either on the river or in the garage. Now with these extra protection bars on the side, I rarely even get a ding in the prop.

A lot of guys thought I was an idiot for running these rivers in a freighter - and looking back I don't know that I'd argue too hard with them. But the bottom line is that this prop guard setup worked flawlessly.

On the zodiac, this guard does suck a little bit of power, but it surprised me how little it actually does affect performance. I would guess only like 10%.
On guards that we've built for previous outboards, we've occasionally had trouble with aeration issues but with this outboard I've never got any of that.
