Double Shovel

Last year I got a call from a guy who told me he had a grizz he wanted to get mounted. He told me he shot it in 1995 and has had it in the freezer since (17+ yrs). I was a little skeptical about it but I told him it had to come with all the paperwork and be legit. He told me he had it wet tanned and that he would take it out of the freezer every so often and mist it down then put it back in. Well the day came that the bear showed up and with it came the hunting license, tag and registration. I left the bear out to thaw because I wanted to measure it and check the condition out. The next day I was able to examine it and it was like it was just tanned. Fish and Wildlife checked it all out and everything was good.
This bear has a great hide and the client shot it when there was still snow on the ground in the spring. He told me he left it for that long because he didn't have room in his house for a mount and has since reached a point in his life that he now has a retirement home where there is room. This was a fun mount to do and the customer picked everything from the style of wood, pose, snow and even the type of roots he wanted, I am glad it all came together
Thx

Might be the last, sport-hunted grizzly ever mounted in Alberta!
Very nice work. Says 'power under the hood', rather than 'power unleashed' to me.

That's the nicest bear mount I've seen on here. All the others don't have the head/face right but you nailed it.

Phenomenal.

That is a very interesting story. A story which entails inclusion of what is probably the longest passage of time between an animal being taken and subsequently developed into a full mount with which I am familiar. It's good to know... Yet better to see. This is indeed a very fine and beautiful mount.

Bravo!

Looks great Curtis,...got to see that....and many others in person last weekend. That is a big bear for Alberta and I loved the coloration in the hair...he's a beautie. Great job on the work and that base work compliments very well...congrats on a fantastic mount bud!!!
