thinking of trying the nsr tomorrow in Edmonton im new to the area any tips

finding deep water is your first goal on a river like the nsr for most species.

heres a tip:

just got back from herm. i got skunked but a few people caught some jack and burbot.

Is there still an ice berg jam at herm?

was clear today. if you want to stand on bank away from outfall it's pretty dicy, as the ice thats piled along shore is trecherous.
keep in mind that if a big breakup occurs miles upriver from edm. you could have another ice jam at anytime. good luck.
