Given the recent interest in snow geese on this board, I thought I would post these links up for information purposes.

You'll have to scroll though both to find the pertinent sections on light geese, but there is lots of good info here on the white geese populations and management / hunting proposals.

The mid continent snows were designated as overabundant quite a few years ago,,, hence the spring season for snows in Sask. Now the Western Arctic and Ross Goose populations are being considered for the over abundant designation as well. Since neither of these populations were previously considered overabundant by the CWS, Alberta was never given a spring season.

At any rate, the proposed overabundant designation Western Arctic and Ross Goose populations is why we see we see the proposed 50 bird limit and spring season for Alberta for all light geese (Ross included).

Please note I highlighted the word "proposed". Until is written into the 2014 / 15 regulations, I wouldn't book any holiday time to hunt snow geese in Alberta next spring.
