....and make sure everything is snugged up and aligned. Then work up a load or 2 for it. If you don't handload, it should be fine with any better premium factory stuff - you might have to pick up a few, but Federal Premium, Win Supreme or even Hornady Light Mag. Something'll work fine enough for hunting accuracy.
I'm picking one up myself on Wednesday in .204 Ruger, the varmint version, or maybe a 22-250. Can't decide just yet.

The accuracy of a 700 can usually be improved with some trigger work. A gunsmith won't charge you too much to make the trigger better, or if you're handy, it's not hard to do yourself. Here is some information that explains how to do it:

Get a good stock.

Some SPS rifles are great shooters, some are poor. I lucked into a great shooter in a 7 Mag, but the stock had to go.

free float the barrel. my group went from 3" to 1" after free floating. remove the 2 nubs at the forend of the barrel. try to slide a dollar bill under the forend all the way back. i had to take off another 1/8" past the nuds to get mine to float.

Where did you find a stock? I believe the SPS is the ADL action, correct?

SPS come with either a swing plate or detachable magazine. They are just BDLs with crappy stocks. Not sure, but I believe the SPS predecessor was an ADL version.

I prefer the H-S stocks, but even the cheapest model from Ramline is better than the SPS stock.
