Hey everyone I am looking for a lake to go camping on this summer that is within about 3 hours of Calgary. I would like to camp on crown land also and be somewhat secluded. Can anyone point me in a few directions. Thanks

Steve

Located 10 km. north of the Canada/U.S. border this beautiful, well cared for campground has 64 sites, some with power, rental cabins, showers, playground, firewood, stage, kitchens, volleyball nets, paddle boats, fishing in the reservoir and canoe access to the Milk River. Open May to September.

We stayed there very nice campground and freindly staff

Thanks a lot, I'm not into the campground thing, I'm looking for something secluded.

Are you talking about backpack type camping or camping where you drive a vehicle someplace and set up camp? There are lots of the backcountry type places you could hike to, but anyplace 3 hours from Calgary is going to be crowded at times if you can drive right to it.

My son and I do a lot of backpacking in, but my parents are coming up in July and I was hoping for something to drive or boat to, my dad can't hike far.

There are some nice random camping spots in the Beaver Mines area, or if you're famliar with hunting WMUs, 400. Also, WMU 402 has some nice spots. The lake isn't on crown land, but you could camp near by and then fish Beaver Mines Lake.

You have to keep in mind that any place withing 3 hours of Calgary that you can random camp on is usually going to be busy with off roaders, other campers, etc., especially during the summer.
