I need some advice on where to find part for a 22. rifle that has been in the barn for 10+ yrs. Its in pretty rough shape but I've decided to make it my project. I really wanna learn gunsmithing and have learned alot about guns in the past few months. This is MY first personal project, as any other guns I worked on belonged to the gunsmith I was learning from or his customers. I need a bolt and a clip. This may not help anyone help me yet as I havent recieved the rifle yet and dont even know make/model or anything else about it. But if anyone has ideas on where I can start lookng for parts let me know please.
Cass

hehe thought I'd attach some links to other guns I've worked on.

Milarm downtown has tons of old parts kicking around, especially clips and such. Also depending on what it ends up being you may be able to just get a new clip.

Good Luck!

Nov. 1/08 - Edmonton Cartridge show - 780-455-5036
Dec. 6,7/08 - Edmonton Gun & Collitable Show - 780-455-5036

I've never been to the "Cartridge show" so I don't know if they also have a lot of guns and gun parts there?

The Gun and Collectibles show will have lots of gun parts. If you go be sure you know exactly what gun you have, Make, Model and caliber and anything unusual about it. It will help in finding the RIGHT part.

Have you been to "Don's Gunsmithing" which is north of Rocky on the west side of #22?

Check out e-gunparts.com too. They have a pretty good selection and even though they are in the states most stuff comes pretty fast. The bolt might need a permit, not sure.

Put a WTB ad on CGN and you might find something too.

I have the same firearm in the gun vault. Canadian Industries Ltd. manufactured paint, fertilizer, and ammo. They also got into the house gun trade. Back in the sixties it seemed like every hardware store and department store had their own brand of firearm. They made pretty good ammo so why not sell firearms too!

Most of C.I.L.’s firearms were made by savage/ stevens, but if you check the house brand to manufacture lists you won’t find the CIL model 171.

The model 171 was made in Brazil by C.B.C. here’s their web site.

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=pt&u=http://www.cbc.com.br/&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dbrasileira%2Bde%2Bcartuchos%26hl%3Den %26rls%3DGGLD,GGLD:2004-52,GGLD:en

C.B.C. is the largest ammo producer in Latin America. At one time Remington own most of the shares. I strongly suspect the CIL Model 171 is actually a Remington 525 made in Brazil and sold in Canada.

Here’s a parts manual for the 525.

Does the bolt look familiar?

At any rate I found you a site to order parts for your model 171 @ gun broker .com

Good luck with your rebuild!

It may be a C.I.L. 171 but it may also be a few other models that C.I.L. sold OEM from CBC.
If I had pics i could likely tell you which one it is - I have a few parts laying around, but sold most of the stuff from my dad's hoard to Irv at western.....

My dear lady...is that a bottle of wine I see in the pic???

That is offensive to one as pure as the driven snow like myself!:mad2:

I seen such a display of slovenly morals since my days out hunting with Bobby B! Alcohol and guns don't mix! You should be ashamed of yourself for

BELCH!!!

Oops. Chit. Busted again.

Sure, I'll have another beer thanks...

Lmao! Rusty, I think your driven snow is a little yellow...:D

My dad has a C.I.L. .22 made by Anshutz, I'm wonderin', when did C.I.L. quit sellin' guns?

C.I.L. quit selling firearms in the early 70's, when they started dismantling their ammunition devision.....

I also have a CIL Model 171 that I am redoing. the logo "CIL" Model 171 .22lr should be stammped on the breech end on the barrel just behind the front open-site. Uglyelk2, is correct, it took me a really long time and a bunch of research to find out that this is indeed a remake of the Remington 525. Then it took me even longer to find a Magazine for it. I Finally got a Rem. 525 magazine, (it only took 1.5 years :rolleye2: ), and it was a perfect fit! Now all I need is to do is either buy or make two new extractor clips so the spent rounds will eject, as the stock extractors broke on me. In the meantime I'm going to refinish the stock and look into getting some nickle platting work done to the bolt/bolt handle, the trigger guard, and the magazine/Magazine well.
I find this to be a very nice shooter! It would appear to be a very accurate .22, even when using the open-sights as well as being weighted/balanced nicely! The CIL .22cal, "sub-sonic", "Low-Noise", 700fps rounds fire so perfectly and quitly out of it I just love mine. With that being said I really miss my Ruger 10/22 and would Trade my 171 for a 10/22 anyday ;)
