View Full Version : If you had a few hours in Kelowna, and never been there before, what would you do?

As the title says, I've never been to Kelowna.

I will likely be flying in for a day trip later this month, and will have maybe 5 or 6 hours of free time before I fly home.

I usually travel with only a carryon, so will likely pack a speedo and some flip flops in case I run into Oki out there.

Any restaraunts, or locations that are 'must see'? I will have a rental car and always like to explore.

It looks like I may have a few more trips out there, so hopefully will get to explore a little more on an overnight trip or two, but for a first-timer, any hints?

Best restaurant I've ever eaten at in Kelowna is called Raudz Regional Table. Fantastic. My wife still says the Arctic Char she had is the best meal she has ever had. If you follow Top Chef Canada, apparently Evelyn from the last series cooks there.

Take a travel rod and do some fishing. I'd try wood lake up towards the airport.

And knowing you as I do Diver, I'd say there are any number of "gentlemen's" clubs and "therapeutic" massage places that can cater to your apparently incessant hunger for lotions and oils. Here's to a Happy Ending to your visit! LOL

Go to Penticton.:sHa_shakeshout:
If you like Blue Cheese then there is a winery( not a fan of their wines) just outside of Penticton on the East side of the lake-Naramata Bench area. Called Poplar Grove Winery-they sell their cheese out of the shop there. Best Blue cheese in Canada IMO- Called Tiger Blue. About 2- 2 1/2 hour round trip to Kelowna. Nice short little road trip.

+1 for Raudz and I live here just make sure you have time as its very busy. It all depends on what your into but check out Myra Canyon tresles online and decide if you want a little walk. You could also go on a wine tour... Kelowna is a tourist town where the lake, beach, golf and wine rules.

and if you are into the Blue theme, there is a cozy little place in Penticton called the 'Blue Mule' that has interesting entertainment. :)

Some great tips guys.

Will be sure to pack my crayon.

Believe it or not, I've never been to a 'ballet' as some gentlemen refer to such establishments.

Looking forward to spending some more time there if this project takes a while.

Does Kelowna still have that cool indy style go cart track? It was a fun place to kill an hour back in the day.

6 hours in Kelowna isn't enough time to go many places. The highway can sometimes be slow in between kelowna and penticton. Might be possible to rent a speed boat and go for a 2 hour cruise if the weather is permitting. But you will be a few weeks to early for the full bloom beach season.

You could go for a quick dive. http://www.boatingkelowna.com/diving.htm
Just pack along some longjohns for under the dry suit. Cold water. :sHa_sarcasticlol:

That track was still there in 2009. For the opening poster check that out for sure. Also there was still a arcade there too with outdoor & indoor mini golf back in 2009.

Also if you can rent a boat.....unless you own one. That is always a blast too.

Still there...... http://scandiagolfandgames.com/

Here is the Malibu Grand Prix...... http://www.kelownagrandprix.com/

I will add this too. If you can handle close to a 3 hour drive from Kelowna to Revelstoke be sure to check this out...... http://www.skytrekadventurepark.com/photo-galleries

My family & I was there in 2009. It opened I believe in 2008. Beside this is The Enchanted Forest that you could visit as well. Also there is a Train museum close by too I believe.

Malibu Grand prix, I still have my drivers licence somewhere lol. That was a fun track because you raced the clock, not your buds. It was amazing how you got to learn the curves and gas pedal and actually shave time off your first few runs around. And the cars were awesome.

Whenever I'm in that part of the world, I lace up the hiking boots, we have no scenery like that around here. Especially when you get further south, like from Penticton down to Osoyoos. I had the same reaction to the area around Drumheller the first and uh... Second time I went. I can't get enough.

Back in the 80s I was there for a couple days due to working for a co. out of there.

Was looking through the phone book for a number & noticed there are pages of escort pages......so called one for fun.

Had the lady answering the phone cracking up..... they wanted $200.00 per hour.
Told her I could dig a huge hole with an excavator for that much, and it would be there forever :sHa_sarcasticlol:

Was a fun conversation.....no , I did not hire anyone !

I believe that's the reason most people call them.
So it was all good until you heard the price, eh? LOL

Well, thanks for all the great tips folks.

I might have to check out the wildplay course there. I've gone to the course in Victoria and Nanaimo, and they're a ton of fun.

Headed there tomorrow, so we'll see what sort of trouble I get myself into.

If I ever get to Kelowna, I will go to the winery where they make Calona Royal Red wine. I take a generous amount of Royal Red on any hunting or fishing trip that I go on that is going to last longer than twelve hours. It is the ideal bush beverage. It has seen me through a number of potentially survival situations. Going to the winery would be a pilgrimage.

Well it's been a fun but loooong day. Got a bit of work in too. I drove up the west side of the lake, then over to big white ski resort. I had a beefed up Chrysler 300 and that was a fun car to drive on those windy roads.

Flight is delayed..... But looking forward to coming back to Kelowna and will bring the wife.

Traffic sucks in town though that's for sure. I had no idea how busy it is here.

Kelowna is the biggest inland city on BC. Enjoy. Take a gold pan along next time. Up bear creek on the west side of the lake had an old prospectors cabin on it 40 years ago above the falls on bear creek.

Penticton and you would find to be more of a small town feel to it. More of a beach town in summer. South okanagan is more desert like with orchards.

Do they still make that plonk? LOL I worked my way through university many moons ago, in part, by working at the ALCB store on 96 St. in Edmonton. Skid Row. The most popular bottle among the toothless there was Calona Royal Red. Used to harass my dad because he drank it too. ;) Didn't realize it was still around.
