Found this while trolling north west shore today. Halfway between the gun boat launch and the narrows. Looked like someone had already hit it at speed. Boaters beware.

It appears to be a truck.

Damn, I see it now lol. You should report it to SRD/RCMP or whoever deals with stuff like that. Owner can/should be fined for leaving it there.

Did you mark it with a bouy or something so that no one hits it and takes their bottom end off ? I would have. Hope no one is in it.

svengali
05-20-2014, 06:19 AM
Pretty sure it was empty. When we came up on it from the front so both my buddy and myself could see straight into the cab and saw nothing.
We didn't have anything on board to mark the hazard unfortunately but I'm gonna report the find this morning.

Thanks for the heads up. If I knew where it was I'd put a stake through the roof with a warning flag. I'm headed out there Thursday and might be able to mark it before the weekend if you have the coordinates.

So I went into Alberta beach townsite to report the truck and although highly entertained by the pictures, said it wasn't their concern but did give me two numbers to try. Again both those agencies found it amusing but told me they don't have the equipment to get it out of the lake and it wasn't their concern. One of these guys was law enforcement ............. what a joke.

If your heading east out of the narrows on the north shore the truck is about 3/4 of the way past the first row of houses towards the second set of houses. If you look at the shore just past the beaver dam the is a make shift road the truck probably came on the ice from. slightly east of that road about 100ft off shore is where the truck is.
This is the best directions I can give for now - just learning how to use the new fish finder when we came upon it so I didn't get the location marked.

Typical attitude these days, not my problem...

Someone should get the license plate off it. Report it as abandoned to the RCMP...

My buddy who was with me commented the plate was off it but I.m going out tomorrow so I'll double check.

If I landed a Chevy, I'd probably throw it back as well. All kidding aside, I hope they get it out before someone wrecks their boat or hurts them self with it so close to the surface.

HunterDave

In a month I'm betting that the roof of the truck will be on the surface. The lake is still emptying from the Spring thaw.

How about someone from the environment. If that thing is still leaking oil and fluids they would want to get it out of there.

Contact the DFO and report it as a hazzard to navigation.

after a bit of a phone runaround i talked to someone at alberta environment who said they are the ones that will deal with this problem. i gave them the info. that the op posted and was surprised to hear that no-one else has reported this yet. hopefully they will at least mark the truck with a bouy to prevent an accident while they figure this out.
if the OP was playing some kind of gag with us (which i doubt) then i might be in some hot water as they took down my info as part of my report.
hope that truck doesn't spoil my wallie tags this year. lol

Just got off phone with ESRD.

Turns out It was a stolen truck back in December. RCMP knew about it and its location and why it wasn't reported to ESRD and taken care of is still a mystery.

The county has also been notified and a marker will be put on it soon.

They will update me as they get info and I can post here.

more than a few old vehicles in rivers..... Back in the day people would try and guess the day the river would break up..... An old car was put on the ice in the middle of the river......when the car disapeared, it was officially break up.

Good news they are moving on it now but I have to wonder, why wait for an owner or insurance company to say go. It's a hazard to the lake and boaters. The provincial gov should be able to make the call regardless. Then pass on the bill to the insurance co.

Holy crap! I have been amused and watching this post and I am absolutely ****ed that the truck is still there when the RCMP knew about this months ago! I have no respect for the lack of action or caring on whoever knew about this and did nothing! I guess all the stories we have all heard over the years that if your truck goes through the ice you would be in big trouble and have to have it removed immediately and get fined x amount per day is all just that... stories.

Kudos to those who identified this and notified or pushed the authorities to act!
