WTHunter said in his elk post that this is the 6th species he's shot. What about the rest of you? What have you shot?
This year I claimed my 6th species, as well. So far for me, I've shot:
Whitetail (Bucks & Does)
Mule (Bucks & Does)
Elk (Bulls only)
Moose (Bulls only)
Black Bear (Male)
Cougar (female - in self defense) (here come the jokes)
What have you shot?

you kept count of that many gophers? Just whitetail and the odd squirrel who gets too annoying lol.

you kept count of that many gophers?
No, The number is probably more since I started snaring them when I was in early elementry school.
I guess I could add a beaver to the list since there was a casualty when using excessive dynamite on a dam one spring.

There is stil hope of adding an elk bull to that list this year!

Moose
Elk
BH Sheep,
Pronghorn
Coyote,
Badger,
Porcupine,
Skunk,
Beaver,
Ruff, sharptail, spruce grouse
Pheasant,
Gray Partridge,
A few species of ducks,
Canada and specklebelly geese,
Ground squirrels,
Magpies,
Crows,
Raven,
Pigeons (thousands, most by hand),
Barnyard cats. (Laugh or be grossed out if you want, but it is amazing how sporting they are once they adjust to being hunted.)
Grandma, " Nice to see you, first born grandson. Did ya bring a gun?" Of course Grandma. Have you ever known me to not bring at least one gun to the farm? "Now that you mention it, no. Don't take you shoes off. We're being run over by those darn cats. Can't hardly get a bird to watch at our feeder anymore. We're too close to town. We get lots of cats dropped off here and they soon go wild. Get out there and thin the herd some. Then you come in and have a fresh cinnamon bun." But Grandma, I don't want to shoot any cats. "Listen to your Grandma! No one else will do it. I'm counting on you! You love guns and to hunt, this should be right up your alley." I really don't want to shoot a cat. " Get out there and shoot a few." All right, I will.
Let me tell you guys something. Once you shoot your first cat, it ain't so bad. By the time you get 3-4 the herd is getting pretty spooky, and they become quite challenging, especially as you are not allowed to puncture cows, barns, shed, autos, pails, tractors, implements etc. You have to choose your shots wisely. Then comes the day, you bring your pump shotgun and you get your first double, you're hooked then! It's also amazing what sway the prospect a fresh cinamon bun has on a young man.
Oh, word of advise to single guys. Once you are started on your cat thinning career, it's best not to return to the city and mention your exploits to the fairer sex, at least if you are interested in dating them. However, as I'm typing this, there were a couple of lasses that I wasn't interested in and they kept asking me out. Perhaps if I had mentioned that I had bumped off cats, they would have left me alone!

struck out on deer tonight, at 4:45 I had a doe come in on the wrong side of the cutline, I dropped my shooting stick, snuck up to a tree and had her staring at me. Couldnt even find her in the crosshairs, I wear contacts and if any of you wear glasses or lenses of any kind, youve probally noticed when you look through a scope its blurry. Blurry crosshairs + camoflaged deer = i cant shoot lol. The fawn jumped over a log, I bleated at her, she stopped and I could find her with the scope either lol. but in preveious years i've got......
1 cow moose - 30-30
half a dozen whitetails - 30-30
mule fawn - 250 savage
