Two great days of fishing on Crawling Valley. May 15 and then May 21 Fished the 5 - 8 foot water as it was 53 F. Both times the bite started at about 11:30 AM and ended at about 2:00 PM. On the 15th. they took just about everything we threw at them but on the 21st. they only hit a 4 inch Williams gold and silver whitefish. It was a bit rough the first day but the 21st. was ideal conditions. We kept enough for a good feed of Pike. Cold water Pike is hard to beat especially when they are deboned.

Hit it May 24th.......pike bite was on big time, caught between 25-30 pike of course nothing really big. Bugs were absoulutely disgusting, i would start the boat and blast around to try and get rid of a few. We didn't catch any walleye, i did see one in about 6 feet of water but that was it for sighting any (except for the dead one floating).

The first time we were out the fish flies weren't all that bad but the second trip they were much worse. Couldn't open your mouth without having to choke on one. It was one of those days where you really needed a stiff breeze to keep them away. That's the earliest I've seen them out in those numbers.

Happens every year about this time.

They should be gone in about a week. Same thing at all the other resevoirs in the area as well.

Anybody been out the last few days? Has the midge situation resolved itself ?

It has, at least from shore.

I caught a decent walleye at CVR last evening at around 9. 25in, she put up a fantastic fight. Fighting a decent sized fish from the rocks is exciting, hopefully I'll catch a few this size and bigger this summer.

Nice walleye...Are those the rocks along the South side?

It's just a bridge, not the lower entrance or an obstacle. Fish can swim past it so not a problem !! It has to be a spot where fish can no longer travel upstream.

Boat launch is real good. Walleye fishing is still a bit off.
