Lol...
Don't think it turns over anytime. Too big and deep. It will murk up in the summer and clear off again in the fall but think its more because of run off than the lake turning over. IMO

here is a read to explain

the fish finder shows were the thermocline is now but if you fine tune it will be very easy to see on some fish finders

guides first 3 weeks = 30 fish per day this last week = 10 fish per day average

silt is in the water at Spirit Island all ready and has taken the visibility down .. I was up on Fathers Day weekend

Food for Thought

You know about thermoclines but you still use the fish id mode on your finder.
I'm confused :)

not my boat and fish finder.. I am in middle:happy0034: seat

also we are looking for a certain size of fish

and yes I do know about thermocline and how it shows when the lake has turned over

on Fathers Day weekend you could see it dropping and how the fish were up and down along side of it as it had not stratified yet

I think what is happening is that the surface water is warming up which allows the fish to move further out into the lake and still be in their comfort zone. The cloudy water will help it warm up faster. The fish where at the same depth 3 weeks ago at the upper end of the lake and you could see a well defined line. You do not see a line on the finder now. On Friday there were all sorts of fish in the top 20 feet, but still, there were fish sitting at 60 to 90 feet just out of Home Bay. The other thing that changed is that the spring and creeks did not show up on the finder like they do in the early June? I think the thing to think about here is this is not a "lake" but a river and the incoming water my have warmed up to the lake temp. But all this still does not make the fish bite. This lake is different because of the depth, the amount of rivers and springs running into it, and its altitude. It may never turn over, because the top is always moving.

Your looking for a certain size? Like maybe a 15 lb brook trout :)
More the reason to turn the fish id off. There's what...3 fish sizes on the finder. Fish arches will give you a truer representation of fish size.
There's your lesson for the day.

Cheers.

Funny guy , here's a hint guess whos record that 15lb brookie would break. Lol fish id gives target depth and on some hummin birds which cone the target registers. This give a slight side scan if one understands cone angle. So if using down riggers one can be more accirate with depth selection and with dipsy divers an idea of how far out one runs. ...right back at cha.:)
