Just wondering, to the farmers on AO if anyone has baled hay yet?

I see some have started to cut, but I haven't seen any bales yet. Our alfalfa has just started to bloom, so we will look at starting to cut next week.

Yeah it had a slow start this spring, the alfalfa hay is a good week to 10 days behind. The hay I was cutting is on some low land, mostly brome and Timothy.

Started cutting hay yesterday, alfalfa is behind with the cooler spring so end of next week before I tackle that weed...

On a side note, god dang gophers and their holes makes for a miserable unclogging of the hay bind :mad0100:

Great crop here in the South tho, swaths are thick and fields in good shape.

I did a round or two last night. My hay crop is in many different stages. Some stuff is full bloom other spots are weeks behind. I don't think mine will yield well. Its pretty sparse in spots. Time will tell. Looks like hay will be expensive here in the south. With cattle prices where they are I think this may be a good year to reduce some numbers.

There are some fields already cleaned up, but then most farmers put it up as silage, and second cut would be hay.

Have to agree that prices will certainly be higher than normal, now with the flooding to the east there may not be much to go around.

Have had near a dozen asking already for hay, just don't have nearly enough to satisfy everyone's needs..

Not as many cows around and with the prices not as many guys will winter marginal cows so may not be as much need as you suspect. Talked to our AG yesterday and this is lowest amount of cows in 10 years due to high prices.

We will start to put up hay next week

Just in the last two days around the U of A Farm in south Edmonton.

Just north of Edmonton if there is some big time sunshine like last year I think there will be another record harvest of canola. Barring any hail.

Ours is still standing. Neighbor across the road started baling yesterday though. Our crop is a huge mix of good and bad. I have no idea what to expect from it as far as yeild goes, but I suspect it will be poor. Spring was late and we had frost into June. Not exactly great growing conditions.

No irrigation! Just happened to get enough rain at the right time--for a change. Where is "up here"?
