My little 2000# winch in the truck box has a weathered out controller from being exposed to the elements for a few years. It is an ATV handlebar controller. Finding a new controller costs as much as a new winch, so I want to just build a new controller with a couple push buttons like were used to start the old cars.
As I think I understand it these 12V winches just reverse polarity to the winch motor for power in or power out? as it has only 2 wires to the winch and 2 wires to the battery. Power in would be + to + from bty to winch and neg to neg .Power out would be +from BTY to neg on motor, neg on bty to + on motor .
Should be a simple 2 push button build, one button power out, one button for power in, when pushed or alternately just wire one push button and use alligator clips at the motor and switch them over for power in or power out .
Am I missing something?
