Well, we are back from the "Antelope Fencing Project" with the AFGA. We were so far south you could see the "Sweetgrasss Hills" and the "Sakatchewan Border" signs at the same time. Just off the "Red Coat Trail" we were. About 16 volunteers, some from Calgary, Brian and Warren from Elk Point, Ken and Teri from Okotoks, Shay from ACA in Lethbridge and Jessica from Lethbridge as well as T.J. and Blair from AFGA. Sat we were at the fencing site by 9:00 and our work party consisted of Shay, Glenn, Val and I. T.J. and Blair were out the day before and layed out the smooth wire . We came along and Glenn went ahead and pulled the staples from the bottom three strands of barbed wire, Shay then positioned the smooth wire at 18 inches and stapled it and then Val and I went along and restapled the barb wire evenly spacing it. The day was about 30 C. but luckily there was a good wind blowing. A few Antelope were seen. The land owner would show up every hour with cold water and other refreshments and more staples as well. On Sunday we went to a different fence and on the way a young buck was seen running towards the fence, stopping and crawling underneath it, and then continuing on his way, and that is why we are doing this. All in all, about 8 miles of barb wire was replaced with smooth wire by 16 volunteers. If you have never been "DOWN SOUTH" there is another work party planned for August. Get on the AFGA Web page and sign up. It is awesome.
