Such a peaceful spot, I'd give up the wife for a week to drop a line in that river/lake

Made it to Ft.Good Hope..fueled up 9 jerry cans and that cost $420.00 Yikes!!! In 200 km from here we will be in some of the greatest fishing here..maybe we have a small shore/fish late supper. We are doing about 30 k per hour speed wise. Enjoying some pretty nice scenery.

Great trip, intreasted in more details of your trip, how much fuel you used, time it took and of course more pics!

We left Hay River on July 4th around 8 pm and arrived in Inuvik about 3am on July 11th..we used 5 gals of fuel every hour..we managed to get about 4 miles to the gallon over the 1200 miles we travelled. But we had the pontoon boat loaded down pretty good,5 of us plus everybody's hear which was minimal..10 jerry cans of fuel plus the 26 gal tank in the boat..we managed to average out at 30kmh for speed..as soon as I get my internet working at home I will post some pics up..awesome trip, I may just do it again someday and take my time as on this trip we were on a pretty tight schedule. There is lots of neat people in the small communities along the way, if I was to do it over again I would like to take 10-14 days on the river. Plenty of great places to stop and spend the day fishing for trout ,Wallaye, and big pike!

What were your sleeping arrangements on the river?
How did you deal with cooking?

We managed to sleep all five of us on the boat a coupla nights when we had to anchor out on the water but we also had some great spots along the river where we put up a coupla tents..had to be careful of the bears those nights..the wife and I spent every night on the boat as I have this fear of waking up in the morning and looking out of my tent and seeing the boat floating away without us. Cooking we did with one of those portable little gas type stoves,we had a small folding portable tables that worked great on the boat or shore..bacon and eggs every morning and chicken wraps for lunch and supper was usually just a late night snack. We were hoping for some fish but they proved to be smarter than us until we made it to the cabin!

Awesome trip. My neighbour growing up, ran barges from Hay River back and forth to Tuk. Told me some very neat stories of his travels. Must have been a wonderful time. GN

Yes it was a great trip..I will be doing it again someday for sure..the North is very big and only gently touched by man..very serene out there when you are all alone on that river! Very beautiful, I urge anyone who is thinking about this kind of trip..just do it! We talked about it for over 20years before we were lucky enough to be able to do it this year!

I could probably do the math , but what did a typical day look like as far as run time/hours spent travelling?
Also curious about a rough budget for this type of trip minus the purchase of a pontoon boat.
I did a chef stint as a wild game specialist for the Western Arctic Business Development Corporation at the Finto in the 90's and would love to see that country in the summer. Drove to Tuk a few times on the river
That cabin location looks shockingly familiar to me.

We had great weather the whole trip on the river so we could put in about 8 or 9 hours per day travelling time sometimes a bit more as we tried to do about 150 miles per day...the cost of gas was just around $3000.00 or so..i could do it for less now as we tried to stick close to the marker buoys..we could have done better mileage wise if we had have just watched our water depth and went right down the middle of the bigger water instead of going back and forth staying on the path of the buoys..the cabin is on YaYa lakes which is a left turn at Bar C instead of the right turn that takes you to Tuk..bar C was where the big tanks used to be up on the tundra on the point. The cabin is about 20 miles from the main Mckenzie in the middle of no mans land..hard not to fall in love with that place.
