Ever developed a phone app?

I have what may be a heck of a idea for a phone app but have no idea where to start
Or what to expect for development costs.
Anyone have a background in this field by chance ?
Or able to point me to someone who does would be swell as well.

worked for several Ad Agencies where we developed apps, some are simple and not hard ot make with the right software, others take a programmer and can be pricy.

Guy I work with is having an android and iphone app developed and indicates the price is $5000 and $6000 respectively. Contracted it out to a company in India.
