Anyone have a clue what this might be, found it in the middle of the road. Yes, it is alive. So far my story to the kids is Golden Eagle.

Not sure, don't think so. Long ass beak and feet for it's size but I am no bird expert.

Hard to tell, the colour on the wing made me think Starling, but you are right about the other features

Betting it's not gonna last long in that box.

Are you able to get it to the wildlife rehab facility in Edmonton?

Has to have been removed from nest at that size - it was probably dropped in the road by a predator of some description. My initial thought would be something like Meadowlark, though I really can't say I'm very sure about that. I would have thought their nests would be farther along.

Color on wings, I'd say a robin

don't forget the eyedropper with water!

there are several wildlife rehab centers around the province. I think the nearest one to calgary is spy hill. My father took a flicker with a broken wing there a few weeks back

Pretty sure it's not a golden eagle....you going to release it to the wild one day? Or walk around with it on your shoulder?

I vote to keep it and walk around with it on your shoulder. Buy an eye patch and a pipe please.

Ha, funny, yeah it will fly when it's ready. Maybe the bird gods will forgive me for all the innocents we murdered as kids :)

Keep on doing what you do; this could be your return.

If it wants it sit on your shoulder all is good.

It looks like a robin or thrush maybe. Teach the bird to talk before you release it. :sHa_shakeshout:

Or maybe the bird will only migrate as far as the perch in your bedroom for the winter? A friend for life. :sHa_sarcasticlol:

The bird has probably imprinted on you by now, "Mom". Are you going to raise it as a free range bird and socialize it with other robins or do home schooling?

Which newspaper do you line it's box with - the Calgary Sun or the Globe and Mail?

Nope, he has no problems inhaling whole worms and grasshoppers, I was quite amazed, like throwing them into a shop vac.

Well I have been back to work for one day and apparently Jasper is dead. Grounds for divorce I think, unbelievable. I knew I should have brought him with me. Extremely disappointed.

Took it outside, forgot about it, momma cat attacked, they saved it, put it in cage, dead the next day, I am choked. Just a bird yeah, yeah but try to teach kid's some responsibility and this is what happens. They all crying and stuff but too late for that. Kids banned from all electronic devices and cats must be gone before I get home in two weeks. Choked!!! :angry3:

Sucks but the cat was there first and it's only doing what cats do.....no shortage of Robins. All good.

Don’t blame the cat, it was a good run and everybody will grow from this event.

No no, blame the cat.
Get rid of it and tell the kids if they don't take heed, they're next. Lol

Too many cats in the world and not enough Robins in my opinion.

Very sorry it ended this way. I've been there a few times with wild birds and almost always, it ends up the way mother nature had first planned it.
