I searched for a thread and found none. Anybody have any experience with the newer 1500's with the hemi? Wife needs a new rig and likes them. Looking for info on fuel economy with and without a camper, camper is 28 feet and 6400 lbs loaded

Thanks for any info

Couldnt pick a worse half ton to haul a trailer with. Look into your payload....will give you the answer youre looking for. People buying halfton trucks buy every other brand other than dodge to use for things a truck is meant for. People driving dodge half tons buy them for show and looks. If you go with the 1500 get the sales guy to throw in a pink decal of some sorts. ;)

empty around town expect 14l/100km , my trailer is a little heavier and with my old half ton hemi (2010) it got around 27l/100km or 9mpg. it was an awesome truck though , i traded it on a 3500 diesel only because i tow alot and the diesel rules in the mountains.

I can drive 800-1200km hwy on 90L... Full bore too....

The 8speed tranny makes towing a breeze. Hills are easy, but she burns that fuel towing on hills.... Pulled my buddy's 21ft river boat for 250km, burnt just over 1/4 tank....

@ 1200 km to 90 litres that works out to just under 38mpg, you and the guy that started the ecoboost thread should get together & write a book of fairytales lol:sHa_sarcasticlol:

Wouldn't that be just over 8L/100km? Full bore?

I get 15-16 in the city and around 12 highway. Towing a 19ft trailer loaded, I get around 19-23L/100km depending on hills and such. I have the 8spd also. Sweet truck

That's quite the fairy tale. Lol. I've gotten 680 km highway on a tank (115litre) and about 540 per tank around town.

had a 2010 hemi, got maybe 800km hwy 500 city, rear axle locked and snapped the driveshaft on the hwy going 120 so i got it fixed under warrenty and sold it. mine had the rear diff issue in the 2010's. it was good before that but turned me right off dodge.

No actually toyota! Not trying to be a jerk, but its pretty common knowledge that the 1500 is the worst when it comes to hauling ability.

Only the 1/4 tank... I got excited, it was supposed to be 1/2 tank... That pull had lots of hills too. And my full bore is cruise control at speed limit.... Never had a ticket.

But withflat highways I had tripped 1050km with 1/4 tank left nice little tail wind :) . But.... Normally it's around 700 on the hwy. 550-650 in town.

Not a great truck... To flimsy and plasticy... As are all trucks now,

No matter what you buy, the potential for disaster is there. Hahaha

Had to put a new tranny in my '11 before it hit 50,000. Not a lot of confidence in the dodge. Every one has one though. They're cheap.

No problems with mine, I tow a 26' holiday trailer with it. I think I get about 13 l per 100 km on the highway with no trailer. Typically set the cruise around 120. Goes down lots when towing the trailer, but that is to be expected.

I get about 13L/100km highway, 18L/100km city, with my 2012 1500 crew cab sport. 16L/100km highway pulling the boat. I also have aftermarket rear airbag suspension, which I'd recommend if towing a heavier trailer. The rear coilover gives a nice ride, but squats hard with a heavy load.

Ram best interior and best ride. The coil suspension is great for comfort but not for hauling. Leaf suspension is better.the new f150s will have an aluminum body. Really 150s 1500s are not ideal for heavy work anyway.i hear of lots of problems with f 150s I think chev has the best overall package

I haven't researched it one tiny bit, but I've heard guys saying that chevs are 7-8 G's more expensive than similarly equipped dodges/fords. Has to be a ton better to demand that sort of extra cash.

I have the 2013 with the Hemi. 8 speed and 3:9.2 tear end. It also have the air suspension. It pull my 26 foot Travelaire (6400lbs) camper very well.

I don't think I would slam Ford or GM either since I think they would do a good job too.

I get as an average 14.3 but I get 10-12 on the highway. When towing the camper I get the same as I did with my Cummins or Duramax 19-24.

My Ram is, however, way more comfortable to drive and the air ride is supper handy as it levels out with a payload or adjusts for aerodynamics on the highway which is very nice.

My buddy has one and he gets 8 on the highway, but he pays 10 cents per litter more plus urea plus it takes longer to warm up plus it cost him more to buy. In the long run he says it's still not worth it.

Too small to haul a larger bumper pull trailer but perfect for the guy who drags his "competition" wakeboard boat to the lake every weekend.

....dream on! Was that all down hill??? The best I ever got is 700k out of one tank (31 gal). What the instruments read is the potential and not what you will really get...

Just cause it has a hemi doesn't mean you have to drive it like one, its normal for me to cruise at 90-95kph. It's AMAZING how much fuel you save compared to 120kph. Also, don't be scared to burn the highest octane fuel in town. That's all I use.

Been there done that. If you claim you can drive (on average--city and hwy) 1000 kms (620miles) on a 31 Us gallon tank, your mileage would be 8.47l/100km or 27.77 mpg (us).

There's no way even if you were driving all hwy, no wind and feathering the pedal at 95km/h. Aside from the new dodge diesel (broken in), neither Ford, GM or Dodge can claim 27 or 28 mpg because it can't happen, yet.

But I do agree that the 8 speed is really great. Mine has 3:9.2. I'd like to compare with 3:7.7.

What he said. I have some pictures of a buddies dodge half ton with a 1/4 box load of dry poplar firewood and that thing is squatted right down. The coils ride nice, but suck bigtime when towing or hauling any sort of load.

The dodges are built cheap, and everyone that I know that has one has spent a fair bit of time in the shop shortly after 100k.

On the flip side, our 2012 screw ford has spent absolutely zero time in the shop so far, and is much better suited to hauling a load or towing, IMO.

I am not a brand loyal guy, but I would pick the ford over the dodge if towing is in your future.

And I would never touch another Chevy.

A quarter load and squatted right down? Sounds like something is wrong there. I have had a full load that wasn't that bad.

I have no reason no "lie" about any of this. I am giving you my best Mileage to date. Hell even in my 05 1500 I made it from GP to Edmonton on less than half a tank, tell me that's possible twice.....

as I said before....it aint what your truck is rated for.....do the homework and as a couple guys have elaborated. Coil springs blow hard for hauling anything. I meant it when I said you buy 1500's for looks and drivability, not for work related stuff. And hauling falls into the work related category.

X2. I bought a 3500 longbox crewcab 4x4 to haul my rzr and camper and had no problem with zero sag. I would never try that with my 1500. A lot of people do though and risk the lives of their family an others' to save a buck.

yep. The 3500 hauls ace when talking about hauling heavyweight. Hell even their 3/4 tons are great trucks. But man o man....I shutter every time I see anyone hauling anything bigger than a 23 foot trailer with their 1500. As I said, Im a Tundra owner, but its pretty hard to beat Ford when it comes to hauling capability from a halfton.

The payload of my particular truck is only 1360lbs, but a quarter box full of wood would be much less than this I suspect. A quarter box of wood "squatting the truck right down" would indicate there was something wrong I think.

The 2014 ram 2500 and 3500 have rear progressive coils. The top of the coil is nice and mushy for Sunday church cruising and as the coil is loaded the springs get progressively stiffer. And it works well. Coils are the future, might as well get with it.

But anyway I have a 2013 2500 hemi with traditional leafs. I just pulled 7500 pounds of concrete on a 4000 pound trailer up and down the big hills to conklin through Lac La Biche. I averaged 23 liters loaded, and 18 liters dragging an empty trailer doing the speed limit the whole way, even passed a couple people. Highway I usually get 12-13 liters. Those are very comparable numbers to the hemi 1500, but my truck doesnt squat or complain at all when loaded. Why anybody who tows anything would buy a half ton is beyond me. The styling is very similar, so that arguement is out. Ride quality I suppose counts, but new ram 3/4 and one tons ride decent anyway. Skip the 1500, get a 2500.

As a bonus, you can get the Outdoorsemen edition :)
