I will be making this trip in a few months, looking on various maps there are many different travel route choices. Anyone have a recommendation which way to go, or atleast which highways to avoid. Thanks.

Just checked MapQuest....it shows to go north to Edmonton, then SE to Saskatoon and then north to PA. That's one route I wouldn't take. I know some guys who went over to PA last week....if any show up for coffee tomorrow, I'll see what I can learn.

It's a little more scenic if you go up to Lloyd and then up to Turtleford and across through Spiritwood and Shellbrook on hwy 3. Get to see some trees at least. Watch out for deer.

16 east to North Battleford then turn left just past the Casino at the lights on Hwy 16

Save you about 1/2 -3/4 of an hour

I would vote for the Turtleford/Glaslyn/Spiritwood route. The road through N Battleford and Blaine Lake is pretty boring.

East on 11 then 12 to Castor. North on 36 for a few miles then east on 599 to the 41. North on 41 for 6 or 7 miles then east on 600 to provost. Take 13 to sask, 14 on to wilke. Hit 29 north to NB, 40 east to shell Brooke, 3 east into pa.

Best route I found, drove it for a couple years

x2. Used to work in Provost. I went to Red Deer frequently and drove home through Saskatoon on days off, all on this route and it was always good.

That route makes sense, couple of questions;

Goggle maps shows the distance at 645 km, but the time to drive is 8 hrs and 35 minutes. Is that how long it takes??? or how long does it take driving reasonably???

Secondary 600 east to Provost, is this in good condition, for that matter are all stretches in pretty good condition??

THX.

600 is a good road....brings you right in on the west side of Provost and up to Hiway 13.

I have gone that way many times from Edmonton and back. Shorter and just plain much more "picturesque".

It is good highway all the way - 100 km/hr highway for almost all of it - I think County of Paintearth set an 80 limit on 599 but you risk being driven over by any number of B-trains and Gibsons units if you go that speed.

I used to go to Calgary to see my kids, my favourite road was Castor, 599 and 600 to Cadogan and Provost. Macklin up 17 to Lloyd, 303 and 21 to Turtleford and 3 to PA.

That's the route we take it's all good road, 600 might be the best stretch. Dad starts in Stettler, I meet him in Provost. I wouldn't think more than about 6hours from Red Deer with one quick stop for fuel. If you stop for the slots and a happy ending in Battleford add a few minutes.
