Iv'e seen a few of those before, very cool. I wouldn't shoot any of them so the land owner went and poisned them. Maybe a few survived, now I'll have to go see.

Well it isn't photoshopped. It took me 4 days and a lot of help from the frog posse to get the pics posted.:sHa_shakeshout:

Thanks guys.....You're the best.:):love0025:

I will post it on facebook :sHa_shakeshout: with breaking news of the oil spill and the request for volunteers to help clean the pelts of the ones we catch.

Glad there's still some around. Had a nice batch of them around here. Trapped one and took it to the gun shop in stettler. Ken can verify that's its real. Still a few unbelievers though. Lol

Redfrog Redfrog What do I do? It is avian botulism season in central Alberta.

How can we paint all these dead birds with black before the CBC and CTV come by to blame the deaths on the oil industry?

Saaaay you have one those big compressors in your shop......:)

Way cool. I have an albino one mounted. I was shooting the hornet & Hunny was shooting her T-bolt. I'm coaching her gut-shoot him after all these years of coaching & demonstrating head shots. Scared a head shot even w Stingers might not get to taxidermist but it all worked out. I'd like to find a black one to offset ole Whitey.

That is very cool. I have shot literally tens of thousands of gophers and I have never seen a Black or an Albino one. I don't think I would shoot one if I did see it but I would certainly try to get some good pictures of them. The ones you posted are pretty good quality. Thanks for sharing.

If you want to email me a couple of those pictures I will upload them for you without the stupid Photobucket banner messing up the photo. I love the idea of posting it on AZZbook as "Oily" the Alberta Tar sands Gopher.:)

Or, BGLM.....yep. Now there is gonna be a march and rioting, maybe Viking or Stettler gets burned down, gonna loot the local Co-op and steal all the Carhart stuff.....and all because some white farmer shot a black gopher. I can see it. Racist farmers.

Grand father had one as a pet back in the late 80's, caught in a live trap and took him home. I won't say where. ahhahah he tamed up pretty good and you could pet him in his cage until he had enough then he would crawl back into his nest.

Lol, when I was about 12 I decided to keep a gopher for a pet. The first one didn't go very well, I was riding home on my bike with it dangling from my bale twine snare. Unfortunately he swung into the spokes of my front wheel, I went over the handlebars and got a little skinned up but the poor gopher definitely got the worst of it.

The second one made it home, but succeeded in escaping from his cage somehow. He proceded to successfully hide in the nooks and crannies of the house for several days, whistling frequently, which was eventually his undoing. After that one my mother nixed the whole project.

Haha this whole thread is funny but I really liked your story. Hey at least it wasn't a snake. I brought the biggest snaske I ever found home. It escaped in the house. I was not very popular for a while.

There once was a small population of black Columbian ground squirrels in Jasper National Park, near the Icefield Parkway. The last time I checked (about 25 years ago) there were still a couple mixed in with the normal coloured ones.
