I've said it before not all opinions are valid. Some come from a place of ignorance on the subject, or maybe misinformation about the subject or possibly simple human bias.

There are those who think their opinion is valid simply because they believe it is their right to have and express one.

some simply are what we call in Bodo......wrong.

How about this genius??

In 32 he was correct 12yrs later with the full might of the nazis and the USAF he was proven wrong in part . Actual nuclear power plants took a while longer.no that difficult to be wrong in leading edge science . Lots of folks have the opinion the earth is only a few thousand yrs old.

That genius made 2 statements. The first was a truthful observation at the time. The second is true now. Just think, he had all that clarity way back then without access to the AO general forum.

einstein also said "god does not play dice with the universe" about quantum mechanics. he was wrong so big he made himself irrelevant in his own lifetime. he was not a rigorous scientist who would not let predjudice take over.

What did I miss?

I was out camping and hiking with my nephew and wife for the last week. Actually getting outdoors! Two weeks before that we were backpacking for a few nights and had a great time.

....I'm guessing I shouldn't bother posting any trip reports if things are back to the status quo of bickering and non-outdoors related threads.

Monsanto had the market cornered on silicone but they didn't think PC's would fly and sold of their 82% holdings of it shortly before 1984. Now they are farmers.

"Aerial flight is one of that class of problems with which Man will never be able to cope."
- Simon Newcomb , 1903

"The popular mind often pictures gigantic flying machines speeding across the Atlantic, carrying innumerable passengers; in a way analogous to our modern steam ships. It seems safe to say that such ideas are wholly visionary ….."
- William H. Pickering, 1910

In 1939 Einstein co wrote a letter a letter with physicist Leó Szilárd to Roosevelt explaining to him that new advances in nuclear fission made by Fermi, Szilárd could lead to the development of the atomic bomb. They were particularly worried that some physicists in Germany were working on the same thing. This letter was the impetuous for the Manhattan Project.

It's not a big deal to be wrong. Ignoring further evidence because you've already made up your mind is the problem.
