From June 30 to July 5, 14 students and 4 supervisors from Immanuel Christian High School (Lethbridge) participated in our first ever canoe trip into the Lakeland Provincial Park near Lac La Biche in northeastern Alberta. We drove 700 km north and portaged 8 canoes into Jackson Lake.

We canoed across Jackson Lake to a beautiful camping spot between Jackson and Kinnard Lakes. I also brought in my 16 ft. boat to haul some gear.

During our five-day stay, the weather was beautiful and the fishing was amazing. Most 2-person canoes boated at least 75 fish, and some boated many more than that. All of the fish were released except for a few that ended up in the frying pan.

We even caught a few rare 'silver pike'.

Note : They were told to wear a lifejacket. Rebellious teenagers:mad0030:
We used a minnow net to catch some bait (which the students thought was a blast) and spent a beautiful calm evening jigging for walleye, a new experience to most of the students.

We also did spend some down time just relaxing around the fire.

I even showed them how to cook bannock on a stick over the fire.

Special thanks to Marksman Guns and Sports as well as Wholesale Sports of Lethbridge who donated fishing gear to the trip. Also, a shout out to AO Forum members lolanr, chubbdarter and hacman who donated a huge pile of lures and gear. Most of the students did not have much of their own gear, so the donations were awesome..
Thanks to all of you who gave suggestions (months ago) when I was asking for advice during the planning period. The trip was a blast and could not have went any better than I imagined it. I think that for many of the students it was the trip of a lifetime.....now the planning begins for our fall fly fishing trip to the Livingstone River.
