Went a few years ago, our boat caught a sail fish, baracuda, wahoo#2, mahi mahi, and we lost a marlin. Went with captain cook's. I am sure that they had baits set up. We only caught the cuda until we got to these bouy's in the mddle of the ocean, then the fishing went wild for an hour, then we trolled back. The marlin should have been mine, the d#*n guide would not give me the rod bacuase someone else was in the chair realing in a sail fish. I nearly threw him overboard, then the captain wondered why I lost my mind when they pasted a hat around looking for tips?????:mad3:, They had 6 boats and our boat caught the most game fish, but some of the other boats caught dozens of mahi mahi.

Have fun

Here are some pics of when we went.
Good story about the Sailfish. Got talking to a guy from Montreal, he went fishing with some jerks twice and never caught a fish, said the boat stunk of diesel fumes so bad he was nearly ill. When my wife got sick and went below deck, me being the nice guy I am, told him that he could use her rod and real in the first fish it caught. When they started howlering sailfish and it was on her rod I almost died! He looked at me in disbelief when I told him "I keep my word, it's yours". I was feeling pretty down at this point, then we hooked a marlin on my line. Being that I was not in the REELING CHAIR The junior guide, who spoke little english, tried to reel in my fish. So I was a little agravated to say the least. I got right up beside him and started to yell, I then proceeded to stop on his bare feet, I soon gave up,VERY frustrated. :mad3:Then the little skinny BAS&%$D lost it 30 feet from the boat, I almost threw him overboard.:mad2: So I got a picture with the sailfish anyway. I ended up catching two Wahoo and losing one big MAhi MAhi.

Captain Cooks also had extravagant seafood. I think this is why they would not let me real in the Marlin. They were out of season and would have made a lot of money from that fish. Only Guessing. Here is the big platter.

The next best excursion we went on was SWIMMING WITH SHARKS AND STING RAYS. They had about 8 nurse sharks (very timid) largest being about 12 feet long and about 5 Sting Rays largest being about 5 feet across. If you get a good guide he will use your disposable underwater camera and get you some good pics if you can hold your breath long enough.

If you are staying at a Riu Resort you will be amazed at the "special" dispensors in your room. You don't even have to walk to the Bar without a drink.:)

We where in Punta Cana last may. I cannot remember the name of our Charter but it was booked through Air Canada Vacations. Had an awesome guide who knew where the fish were. Half a dozen Cuda's, a couple of nice mahi mahi and two 100lb + Sails. It would have been a better trip except two hours before we left we found that the debit machine at the resort had scammed our card for nearly 9000$ in savings. Thank God for fraud protection. We stayed at L'Occidental 5 star resort. Lost power twice a day, could'nt eat the food that was served. One of the five restaurants at the resort was almost OK. But mostly foods you could'nt serve to starving orphans. We did however do a day trip called "OUTBACK SAFARI". This was by far the highlight of our trip. The guides where absolutely awesome. Our Guide "Nacho" was fluent in five or six different languages had multiple degree's in ecology, economy, agriculture and history. They take you through the real DR on a convertable bus, guide you through The ranches and farms-then to the mountains through the Coco and Coffee plantations.
They then take you through small towns-tour schools, and stop at the homes of the families whom sell their products(Rum,coffee, coco and Cigars) to the resorts. You can buy everything for maybe a third of the price from them. We saved more buying stuff on the safari than it cost us to go. They also ensure you are well Hydrated lol. Dominican Champagne is rum and Seven-better the more you drink. Anyways have a blast and dont get robbed. RH

:love:You know it's a tough vacation when Rum is cheaper than Pepsi.

Everything is better in PP. Stayed in Punta Cana first time we went to the DR. Felt like a tourist trap, We enjoy the real life in the Dr not the tourist life. Went to Puerto Plata the next year ended up purchasing a house in Sosua (about 15 miles east of PP)
