Hey everybody, I'm looking for some decent sized rainbows, at least 12'' because i'm getting tired of small stocked ponds(smaller fish 8''-10''). I like to get a better fight from these guys. In fact any trout would be fine from shore, just like a spot for the last couple hours of daylight.
Thanks

I know of a place just like that ! Took me years to find it. If I remember the way I'll let you know. :)

Muir Lake is a trophy fishery. You can take one out of there a day provided it's over 20" in length. The lake is north of Spruce Grove. Twin lakes north of Rocky Mtn house has some decent rainbows in it. I caught a 22" rainbow out of there 7 years ago.

I don't live in the area so have no advice to give, but just found it amusing that 12" rainbows are considered "decent sized"

Nope cant think of any public waters that will fill that bill . One maybe not giving it up on a chance.

what i meant was at least 12'', i thought my expectations were too high if i put 16'' or something

i would do rivers (like the bow w/ big trout)but its pretty fast and swift and i'm terrible in swimming but i could do creeks but their fishes are pretty small

There is no need to wade deeply into a river.

My biggest fish on the Bow was a 28" brown. He was about 2 feet from the shore sitting in water that didn't even touch my knees. Many large fish are holding in this type of water. You just need to be observant.

12 inches for a rainbow is very small you will find many of these size fish in Lakes like Chain Lakes. I catch Cutthroat trout out of the Oldman and Dutch Creek that are up to 24 inches with many avg 16 and that's a Cutty which don't even get close in size to a Rainbow. I myself would fish the Bow river for large Rainbows and Browns. You can also try private lakes like Bonavista if you know someone I have caught 10 pound Rainbows out of there.
