Im in the Ft Mac area and a friend of mine is wondering who all out there is shooting .50 cal's, what they shoot, where they shoot, where they got their firearms from, and if anyone wants to sell anything. He has been shooting for a number of years, and is becoming more interest in the long range stuff, and would be very interested in talking to people who are involved in it.

Thx

Hey Don

There are quite a few different types of .50 Cal rifles out there. Which one are you referring to . . .

.50 Cal black-powder muzzle loading rifle?
.50 BMG?
.50-90 Sharps?
.50-70 Government?
.etc.?
.
.
.

The only .50 Cal rifle I have is a black-powder muzzle loader.

I have built and sold several 50BMG rifles that are in Ft Mac or the surrounding area. Your buddy should not have to look too hard to find several 50 cal shooters at the Ft Mac range.
2 of my close friends live there and both have a 50s I have built for them. They like to shoot clay pigeons, as do I, along with steel reactive targets, but when we get the opportunity all of us hunt with our 50s.

The 50s are great fun, but very expensive. Figure by the time you buy a rifle, optics, reloading gear and some components to be at least $10k into it.
That is for a basic rifle, decent optics and good reloading press/dies. You can get into it LOTS deeper if you wish.
The Steyr is a decent battle type rifle, but for about the same $$ you can get alot more accuracy going custom.
