Whites and Mulies range??

Was out a few weekends ago and found 3 good Oil leases with a pile of Mulies, Does of course. Went out Monday hoping to connect with rutting bucks, but nothing around. I have a feeling they would be close by, but the lines are tough going through the big creek, no quads with us. How far would Mulies range? Would you expect them to frequent an area, coming back after a few days? This is the Brazeau area with some big bush.

What about White Tails in big bush country? My 14 year old son figured out what buck fever is when he encountered the biggest buck we've ever seen. What kind of range does a horny buck have? The way he was moving, he may be somewhere in Regina by now :-)

from my personal experience with whitetails if theres hot does in the area he will be close by more than likely in the thickest most ignorant place he can find but they tend to get stupid at this time of the year up here in laclabiche they have been heavily rutting for 2 days ive seen a ton of good bucks with does in the last few days even rattled 2 in.:D

Yep, Elk river road. Too sweet to divulge :evilgrin::evilgrin::evilgrin::evilgrin: Having done a lot of roading to find something unique and different, now we have to figure out when they could be there. Will be up til Monday PM if necessary, hope to catch them sometime.

Just noticed your handle. As a guy that hunted many years without much success, you're in the right area. Mind you, if you're looking for deer, as soon as you hit bush after Lodge Pole, you are in the right area, deer are everywhere.

I'm one that usually rushes to get some hunting in, this year being a bit of an exception. In as much as I would love to brag with a huge buck, so far the bucks I have taken are puny. When time is short, first thing you see, you have to make sure you hit. I don't shoot unless I will eat it, and my family loves Deer and Moose. Of Course, Wolves, and Yotees are fair game.

On Monday, the idea was to stick around the three leases where the Mulies were a few weekends ago. It was evident that there wasn't much, so we ended up roading 200 cliks. What we found aside from the big buck, is a few similar areas that had deer a few weeks ago and Monday, so these are ones to key in, even saw a pair of Moose. I was starting to wonder if Moose even existed in there.

My buddy kept on telling me, just go there, the deer are everywhere. Well, it took a while to gain some confidence and liking some particular areas. These areas are miles apart, some 30 cliks from each other, but at least we have a few keys to go by in the search for the bucks.

How we found some areas this year is by checking the maps and Google Earth. Look for out of the way places and see what you end up with. In some cases, we ended up in heavily logged areas and retreated, but one place, connected to the three leases, it not very accessible by road. The one cutline we crossed to get there, the creek crossing was at 45 degrees both sides. If we were to have connected with an Elk as we were hoping, the pack out would have been very memorable. When we camped there three weekends ago, we only saw one other set of hunters.

Great area out there .We have been out there twice. Lots of wt deer big bull moose and my first grizzly which was very cool. We were looking for mulies though and didnt see any. You have any sugestions on were to go for mulies. thanks alot any help appreciated.

Well, the range of the buck we saw was pretty tight, put em down about 30 yards away from where my Son missed due to buck fever :-) Not the greatest buck but the biggest one I have ever shot, nice body size also.

As far as the Muley's are concerned, not a whiff where I was hoping to find them. Still looking for an answer as to how far they can travel. We roaded trying to find some sure sign on the fresh snow but nothing.
