Goose flagging tips

Hi everyone,
Can anybody tell me how to use a goose flag? I have one, and ive used it before but I dont really know when to use it and when not to use it. How far away do the geese have to be? do you put it away when they get close? and how close is that? Do you just lift and lower the flag alittle to make it "flap" or do you flap it violently to get attention? any help would greatly be appreciated.

when you seee geese off in the horizon put the flag up and flap it so it looks like the geese are landing. We use one and it works awesome. You can actually see the geese turn and come right in when they see it. Just use it to get there atttention and to get them to see your decoys. Once they are comming in put it down.
