Anyone use this device ?
Does it work OK to keep mosquitoes away ?
Uses butane cartridges.

We've used it in Northern Sask. when the skeeters are out in full force. The difference is amazing compared to those in our group without it. So yes, it works.

You can sit in a stand and not go crazy with bugs. They keep them of and out so the buzzings not just inchs from you, like the dope. dosn't seem to bother bears. when the pad burns out you can flip it over to get more time but they seem to have the kits real close so when out of butane you'll be out of pads. We swear buy them.

Used one bear hunting last spring. Truly an amazing device! Worth every penny!

I'm happy with it too...ain't it sweet when everybody agrees on something :)

The other question people have with using it is "does it spook bears?" Not that I am aware of and nobody I know that uses it has reason to believe it does either.

Edit.....ahhhh I see that Loco made the same comment re bears...

Hey Tbark,

I found that Sherwood Park Archery was the cheapest, even les than Wal-Mart.

Cheers,

$25 to $30. Can't remember what the refills cost $10 maybe?

I picked up a unit and refills at Canadian Tire last year. Bought another unit at Heights Archery in Winnipeg. Camo units are about $5 more (of course) than the standard green.

I got mine at Wholesale. My wife picked up the lantern at Bass Pro Shop in Houston. Don't know how well it will work yet.

Simply put, they work awesome! Sitting over a bear bait, free of mosquitoes and black flies is really a pleasure. Buy one, you won't be disappointed.

I don't have one and was wondering about how long of a burn do you get out of one unit or refill?

What about in a stand for deer, will it spook them? I'm really not familiar with what a thermacell even is.

From what I recall, they use chomomile as a repellant. It is a naturaul scent, and I defianately cannot smell it! Wildlife does not seem bothered by it at all. The butane heats a small pad that repels mosquitos. Last spring I sat in a stand without one and just about died of blood loss (kidding). The next day with the thermacell no skeeters at all! Cost does not matter, the freakin thing is awsome!

The kits seem to have one butane cartridge and 4 matts.
And they say it lasts 2 hrs.
Is it the matt, or the butane that lasts 2 hrs ?
Refill kits have 3 - 4 butane cartridges and 12 matts.

The pads last 2hrs and a butane will burn 3 pads. You can also flip over the pads and get more time out of them . then your butane won't last for 3 pads. i've done this as I forgot to take extra pads with me.

its nice to know how long they last. Another question is what is the effective radius of this thing? I know it would depend on wind etc but what would be the norm?

I know that two of us sitting in a pair of trees about five feet apart it seemed to work in that area.

5 ft is fine but what about people sitting in their back yard on a patio? Anyone have any idea what kind of an area they are effective for?
