Hey all.

First year deer hunting and looking at getting a shooting stick. Wondering what brands people recommend.

Thanks everyone.

I use Bog Pods, in both bipod and tripod but love my Primos tripod sticks. They are way faster to adjust than the Bog Pods.

I have the Primos mono and like it. Easy to adjust. I have the long one.

I use the Primos trigger sticks. They work well.

The best part is how incredibly compact they are.:)

To answer the question, I have a pair of caldwell folding aluminum sticks. They work, I've only shot a couple animals off them so could probably go without but still carry them around. Had the bog pod, didn't care for it. Too big and slow.

They work awesome as walking sticks. And being 6'7" none of the commercial ones fit me.

I pack a Harris bipod sometimes but honestly in most field conditions the grass, etc. are too high to use them. I use my backpack if a rest is needed, most times I just shoot free hand. I have spent years learning how to shoot free hand. There are some great military books out there that can teach you as well.:)

Stony Point aluminum folding sticks. Folded up they fit in an inside chest pocket in my Raven Wear vest, but are easier to access when I need them than if kept in the provided belt-pouch.
I use them often and never shoot without a rest anymore.

I have had both hips done, and i still sheep hunt. I do however use hiking poles to aid in climbing and descending. They are essential under a heavy pack. I have devised a little system using a snap connector and some light webbing that converts my poles to shooting sticks, and have tagged out using these in both the mountains and in the badlands. They work as well as over the counter sticks and you don't have redundant gear. Affix the webbing with some wraps of duct tape which you should always have with anyway. "heading out in the am ..."

I liked my Primos trigger stick for the speed of adjusting, but the one end screwed off in the bush. I bought a set of Bog Pods, and really like them (adjusting is not as fast though), my wife has shot her first 2 deer using them. I find we only use the sticks when in the blind, otherwise, I am using my pack if needed.
