I took my GoPro to the Adams River for my first Salmon run and took some underwater video.

This is raw footage as I suck at editing.

That is pretty neat Jim, always blows me away how colourful they get.

Were you fishing too?

I was fishing for the rainbows that were feeding on the eggs but I did not get out of bed early enough and I think the rainbows had full bellies by the time I started fishing...I did get one 16" rainbow and 3 sockeye.

Where is the Adams river in BC?

It is just west of Salmon Arm and then north...it flows out of Adams Lake.

Little blue fox spinners have worked best for me pulling trout out from amidst the sockeye. casting upstream will get you more salmon, downstream more trout, at least thats how it was on the fulton and pinkkut rivers.

That is awesome! I've always wanted to go check out the Adam's River Sockeye Run. I'd love to throw on a wetsuit and snorkel down the river. I might have to do some of that if I get up to BC before the runs are over.

I was fishing for those egg gobbling rainbows at the mouth of the Adams last week as well. Here's a shot I took of them staging at the river mouth:

When I was in university in Kamloops I went to the Adams run every year. It is astounding how many salmon run through there at the peak of the run. You can walk across on the backs of all the salmon. It is so cool.

Sockeye spawn on a 4 year cycle. Every 4 years is the peak (or dominant) run, with millions of sockeye returning. This, and 2018, 2022 etc. is a peak year. In subdominant years it can fall as low as only a few hundred fish spawning.
