Hi all
First post here, just moved to SW AB. I was posted to Wainwright and then retired, have hunted WT deer most of my life, new to the other wonderful hunting here in AB..
I am new to Pheasant hunting and was wondering what is the best choke to use for them..
With out starting a big discussion, Plse confirm that a pump 12 gauge is the better gun, or maybe it is a semi 12 ?

Hi there and welcome. I would recomend trying your shotgun with a few different chokes shooting at a piece of cardboard just to see what the pattern looks like.

Since MOST upland birds are taken within the first 15 - 40 yards , an IC choke tube should be a good all around choice. Without causing a debate, there are many exceptions. LATE, LATE season rooosters vs Opening day roosters, areas that you are hunting -Wetlands (steel, non-tox) vs uplands (lead ) to name a few. Pattern your gun , you will figure it out. Put it this way, I have used improved cylinder almost exclusively in 3 states and 2 provinces and retired a heck of alot of birds in the process. I also like the auto's but when it get nasty cold out I bring out he 870. Hasn"t failed me yet.
Hope you had a great pheasant season in Lethbridge. I only made it out 5 or 6 times this season but heading to Montana for the annual 5 dayer next week. Improved cylinder all the way.
