Had beauty-to me 10 point stroll in casually at 18 yards tonight about 15 minutes after rattling at 5:30. Got to full draw as he went behind a tree...when he stepped out only his head was showing. 5 more steps and he'd be 100% exposed...so as usual, he only took 2. Stayed at full draw waiting for over a minute...finally decided to take the 1/4ing too shot. Letting down and I'd been busted for sure. He was oblivious to my presence and 100% relaxed, so I took a shot that some may argue is not recommended, but very lethal if you hit the mark.

Solid impact about 2" right of where I aimed. Ran about 70 yards and piled up. BEST blood trail Ive EVER followed in 30+ years of deer hunting. Carotid artery combined with a heart slice and a femoral artery on off shoulder. Like a crime scene from Dexter.

Very happy with the result. He's now skinned and cooling in the garage.

Ahh the two legged pumpkin strikes....awesome, so far for me only two bucks wondered by on Monday to the rattling, maybe i should have taken the last one...last night saw two moose at 30 yards...still no meat in the freezer...maybe I am too picky kinda like when it comes to woman too? Either way great job on a great buck bow style ...well done!:)

Right on!! I'm getting so pumped to harvest food with my bow. Next year! I have to close my groups at 30yards first though. Lol.

Were you in a stand? Or on the ground.

Nice one! I am guessing a stand based on the angle of the arrow.

Ya.... i thought that after post was sent lol.

I've gotta put in the work to build a stand and find a spot and set it next year. Seems to be the best results.

The femur is the thigh bone. As in rear leg. The femoral artery is named for it. It isn't possible to hit a femoral artery in a front leg. I think you watch too much CSI.

Congratulations on the kill though. That Bow hunting stuff does sound like fun.

Nice shot!! I'm fairly new to bowhunting and a couple of seasons ago I had not one but 2 5X5 bulls come to within 15 yards facing me dead on. Being self-taught I had just read that the ethical shots were either broadside or quartering away, and I didn't end up taking the shot. Good to know a good kill shot can still be made with the animal facing you...gotta be sure of it though.

Well done :)

Elk are a bit more beast that deer. A lot can go wrong taking an elk head on with a bow, even at 15 yards.

Yes left, portable tree stand. Broadhead was a G5 125 gr.

As for the other b.s. "femoral artery/CSI" comment from Casual...pardon me. What was I thinking. :thinking-006: Humans have 2 legs thus the main thigh bone is called a femur. What is the front leg of a four legged animal called ? Humorous/radius/ulna?? Its a leg...not an arm. :shake:

Regardless of the trivial response, it took an artery on the front leg.

Jeezus...no wonder folks don't post on here.

Remainder of the normal people: Thanks for the congratulatory words. Much appreciated.

Congrats on a great deer and a great shot. Funny how when your at full draw the darn animal won't take that last step or two.

Finally uploaded a few pis. Heres the traditional pic. Sloppy iPhone recovery pic, but its still not bad overall, minus the psychco eyes and illusion of fog. Man that phone takes crappy pics.

Had some buds here from NB this week that I "Hunter Hosted". One serious hunter and one casual. Put lots of miles on and passed up lots of deer through the week, primarily rifle hunting. On Thursday my less serious bud tagged up a doe for meat and his first actual deer in 30 years of semi-deer hunting, and my more serious bowhunting partner filled his tag on a solid 9 pointer with a bow from one of my bow stands, with 5 minutes left of his week trip to Alberta. Great week all around with friends from back East. A late night getting things tidy'd up last night then off to Edmonton at 0500 to get their flights home.
