Here is some footage from one of Saskatchewan's Splake Lakes. I was shooting blind for most of it and had my GoPro duct taped on a stick but over all I am happy with the results. The video is about 7 minutes long and can be a little boring at times.

Yes! it's a male brook trout (Speckle Trout) crossed with a female lake trout. Take the "sp" from the male speckle and slap on the "lake" for the female lake trout and you have a "splake". Fast growing hardy fish the often feeds in schools and provides great sight fishing. You haven't had fun ice fishing until you have sight fished splake.

Nice fish, thanks for posting. I've wondered why they don't stock those in Alberta.

Splake were stocked in Minnewanka some 50 years ago.

There are a few lakes out east where Splake actually spawn. Recent evidence suggests that the same is true in Minnewanka. Jim Stelfox, biologist had a footnote in a report I read some time ago.

Splake are still commonly caught in Minnewanka, and it's unlikely they live beyond 50 years ........

Thanks... so if I got to Minnewanka can I expect to catch a splake?

Saskpikeman was that Little Raspberry? We fish there on occasion but I am yet to catch a fish in there. I have way better luck at every other splake lake in the province. To give you an idea i have also fished Fontaine, Jade, Burtlein, Piprell, Fern, Sapphire, Diamond, Deer, and Constance. Catching Splake at all of those lakes but not Little Raz... whats your secret? :angry3:. I landed this one of my last outings. 20.5 inches https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ctmnDIYxe4o/VEQFoCNx6XI/AAAAAAAABw4/g7b7ni6daaQ/w991-h743-no/DSCF0479.JPG

Its the only spot i fish on that lake, and the rainbows are nice if you can convince them to bite. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0vr0NQywe6A/VGVNQhNh7rI/AAAAAAAABy0/M8Y5xGdYfAw/w792-h594-no/photo%2B2.JPG Can't wait for Nesland to recoop. Winter kill in the last two years cleaned the pike out and hopefully its nothing but big tigers from here on in.

You are indeed correct but it was stocked with tigers last year. Hybrids are stocked every second year. 2015 is a hybrid stocking year. To the best of my knowledge this was the management style in the past before the unwanted introduction of pike.
