It's that time of the year again so I thought I would post some of the sites and vids that I have found helpful.

Here are some Ice safety sites I have liked.

I have found a lot of very good info in the NWT DOT “A Field Guide to Ice Construction Safety” ie ice road construction manual.
http://www.dot.gov.nt.ca/_live/documents/content/Ice%20Construction%20Field%20Guide%20web.pdf

General ice thickness recommendations from Minnesota Dept. of Natural resources

Stay Safe Out There This winter.

I was just thinking the same thing....time to post some of his stuff as guys (myself included) get antsy to get out on the ice. But you beat me to it...

Thanks for posting this.

I love that Minnesota DNR graphic....that one has been burned into my brain for years.

Excellent post. After nearly getting killed two years ago, I have a theory - if it ain't a boat, don't drive it on a lake. Truck no float good. Ill walk.

prep for the worst hope for the best. I'm not sure but it'd be pretty awesome to cross country ski to your spot. But trucks are probably NOT a good idea unless its like 1 foot deep or more

The rule I stick to is,
4" + = walk
8" + = sled or quad
12" + = drive light vehical, ( slow and carefull )
and so on....

I allways find it funny when there are a dozen or more trucks parked side by each on a lake less than 10 ft from each other. 1 truck= 5000lbs, 10 trucks = 50,000lbs on the same thickness of ice. No thanks, give me room. If I can hear you fart, your too close.
